As part of Sola romance I got the Moonray ability which is awesome. I heard that there was a moonblade and something else. Anyone care to elaborate on stats abilities of these please as I doubt I'll play through again.

How does the romance finish as I am at Ascension, I have bonked Sola and held hands etc, is there a finishing banter. I also have Aerie, she was pregnant but hadn't had the baby. Did I not complete either romance? Have I progressed through the game too quickly for them both?

In regards to Aerie's baby, you have to wait ONE HOUR REAL TIME in the pocked plane, after you did ALL the hell's challanges and BEFORE going to The Throne Of Bhaal.

Currently, the last Sola banter is about black ravens.

Sola's "reward" is based on how you answered his philosophy questions. Loosely, if you favored altruism over pragmatism you got the Moonray and the Spells.

MASSIVE SPOILER

"Lunar Spell Memorization" (which you have) gives 2 extra spells per spell level, allowing Sola to compete with pure-class mages (but not with Edwin).

The Moonray (which you have) has all of the effects of Sunray. In addition, it blinds foes for 2 rounds with no save, does 20d6 magic damage (save for half), dispels illusions (a la True Sight) and heals allies for 20d6. The additional bits of the Moonray bypass magic resistance. Believe it or not, the Moonray used to be stronger. Despite that fact that I have toned it down, I still consider it to be more powerful (although less convenient) than the Moonblade.

The Moonblade (you don't have, but if you want to check it out it's "solablad.itm" or "solabla2.itm"):

Quote
Tsuki no Ken: Moon's Blade +4
According to legend, this ancient blade was originally forged in Kara-Tur by a Tengu weaponsmith with a strange sense of humor. Records of its passing were lost to antiquity until it turned up in the care of a high priestess of Eilistraee. Since then it has been used by followers of Lady Silverhair to protect the weak and strike down the wicked. It was personally granted to Solaufein by the Goddess herself. The blade gleams with a dark silvery light and its passing makes a sound like rustling leaves in a dark forest.

STATISTICS:

Equipped Abilities:  Free Action, Luck, +2 AC Bonus, +1 attack per round
Combat Ability:  Each hit has a 25% chance blinding the victim with lunar radiance and inflicting 12 points of fire damage over the course of 3 seconds.
THACO:  +4 bonus
Damage:  1D8 +4
Damage type:  slashing
Weight:  3
Speed Factor:  0
Proficiency Type:  Long Sword
Type:  1-handed
Usable By:  Solaufein

The Moonblade has an upgrade (which includes, among other things, a number of clerical protections) that appears when Sola exceeds 3.5M XP. This is because most players found the "normal" Moonblade to be "too weak" in ToB (compared to things like the Ravager or Foebane). It also has the distinction of being more or less the only item that is truly immune to Use-Any-Item: the big E will take it back if you fool around with it.

Finally, if Bodhi abducts Sola and you survive and bring him back to life, he gains +3/+3 vs. undead, immunity to hold and level drain, and the ability to cast Repulse Undead.

Despite this Monty Haul array of goodies, many people still find a game featuring all of my "Improved This" and "Smarter That" fights to be difficult.

[ Bored with normal fights? Improved Alacrity + 3x Moonray defeats all but a handful of foes in SoA or ToB. ]

I would appreciate hearing any comments you have on the romance (or the mods in general) now that you have completed things. Did you joust with the Eclipse?

I loooooove that ability.  There's just something strangely satisfying about sending undead skittering across the landscape and bouncing off the walls.   ^_^

The Lunar Spell Memorization specifically only targets caster/self (take a look, it's SPCL999.SPL). If all of your mages ended up with extra spells it's from something else.

Here's a possibility: if you "kit" a multi-classed mage (e.g., use shadowkeeper to make an elven berserker/mage) the game behaves as if you were a specialist mage and you get one extra spell per level.

Lisa, I'm glad to hear that you like the Repulse Ability. You're the only one to own up to ever using it ... it's not the strongest thing in the world. But it is fun. :-)

Am I really?  Odd.  I use it all the time.  In battles, my strategy is to skip strategy and go straight for the jugular.  Better to repulse all the lesser beasties and get right to beating the hell out of the main bad guy.  Then I can plow through the minions at my leisure.   B)

I really liked the Solaufein romance. Having already completed SOA previously it was good to add a point of difference in this new adventure.

The Sola banter was interesting, I wasn't fully aware my choices would decide on whether I received the Moonray or the Blade. I particulary liked Sola's banter with Sarevok. I actually thought they would come to blows eventually.

The moonray ability is great, it took me a while to realise its full potential. I was happy when I thought it only healed my party. Then as I battled Demogorgan I first realised it hurt my enemies as well. I was impressed. And now you tell me is includes blindness and true sight. It was a savour against the Eclipse although I tended to not use it offensively intentionally. Sola was my only character who was timestop immune, I never seemed to achieve the focus ability for my protagonist.

I had Sola dual wield FOA +5 and Angurvaddal for the Str bonus.

I found the revenge spiders easy, I had been reading the readme as I was eagerly awaiting Sola new challenges and was expecting something more difficult. I beat them first time.

Achryssa I beat second turn, I normally walk around with no buffs and she came as I had accepted a Pocket plane challenge. Sola had to fight the cronies from the challenge and Achryssa and her friends. Sola was able to survive fairly easily for ages but he was strength drained and could not hurt his opponents sufficiently (Should've used Moonray in hindsight) to defeat them. So I restarted the battle (Weak I know) buffed and cut her to pieces.

I enjoyed the improved Dragons, vampires and Lichs etc and was able to defeat them often first time using optimal strategies combined with buffing. I abused the elemental ring and staff from the item upgrade mod. I had Aerie wear both and then cast Project image (I tried this after reading your Project Image Ultimate Cheese post!!) but only 1 project image and no other simulcrum either. She could then Summon 6 greater elementals to use as fodder and distractions.

I found improved Bodhi and undead Solaufein a satisfying challenge. I went from this is not possible to refining my strategy to the point where I was able to control them until their buffs wore off and then beat them to death.

Similiarly Improved Irenicus gave me grief initially, I had to really think why am I getting cut to pieces here? After a few tries I worked out their individual weaknesses and the order of deaths. I realised Pride must not reach the party, other wise he will incompacitate too many members of my party. I timestopped and removed his buffs ( he was distracted with summons sent to meet him on his way to me) and magic missiled the sword of grief to death. From there on I was in control. Very satisfying, I had perfected this battle to where I could win it everytime no cheese.

Eclipse was another step up, I got slaughtered too easily I had to check out a few readme for pointers. The initial dialogue was great, better than most of the ingame speech. I really appreciated the 'attack while Radael is talking' option, it saves having to go through massive speeches over and over should I die (Ala Bodhi fight)  . And die I did often. It took eight tries and then I finally had my victory. Good fight these guys were solid, not too many weaknesses. Oh and I play on Core. I beat them twice about tries 4 and 5 but Keldorn got chunked both times and I wanted him in my party.

I upgraded Keldorns armour, Valygars armour, a sorcerian ring, rings of preservation, upgraded robe of good arch magi, boots of the hornet, had 1 girdle upgrade, CF+5, Daystar, helms of the citadel.

I loved the ease of use, stacking all those arrows and potions made sense to me, I got sick of packing and repacking my inventory. This was the solution needed.

Thanks Weimar, I can have my life back now I have finished with BG2 SOA / TOB / Ascension etc.

Well for now anyway!!! :P

Moonray and Kuriosan's revenge... ?!? Now that's weird

Well, I loved this thread, actually I was planning to ask what the Moonray does, exactly, myself!  :)

Now I can go on and ask... the other things I was planning to ask

That's what happened to me:
We were moving to Trademeet. Sola asked my pc to go to the weeds at night (becouse he had to meet Lady Silverhair).
Before nightfall, just outside Trademeet, Kuriosan attacked us.
(As a side note, Kelsey was killed near the end of the fight and resurrected almost instantly).
The fight has been very long (the one in wich we finally won, I mean) ;) and after the end it was night, and Sola got his moonray ability.
He also equipped Kuriosan's sword.
The first time I had him use Moonray, that what's happened:
Some party members got healed.
Kelsey, for some reason, got "hit" (by what? Who knows. That's what the message said: Kelsey-Hit)
The effect rebound on Sola somehow, causing him to be "hit" too.
This caused acidic backlash from Kuriosan's sword damaging Kelsey
And that's not all! Sometimes, the effect causes an infinite loop with the two of them shooting acid arrows at each other forever.
(Note that AI is off and Kelsey has no way that I know to shoot or reflect an acid arrow at Sola!)
The problem is partially fixed removing Kuriosan's sword from Sola...
If I do so, Moonbeam still "hits" Kelsey but it causes no damage or other strange effects.
Any ideas on what's going on?

The "infinite acid arrow bounceback" thing is an Infinity Engine bug that I cannot fix. If it is annoying you, unequip Sanchu. Sorry!

Now, as for the Kelsey-Hit thing ... very strange. The shop said that my laptop has been reassembled from its component atoms ... I'll get it later today. Perhaps then I can look into that. Why don't you email me a zip of a saved game where using the moonray causes this "Kelsey-Hit" message?

Remember that Kelsey's cloak has Fireshield Green: acid protection/damage.

I'm aware of that, but what could it mean?
Guess: Kelsey was under the effect of fireshield:green when killed (more than likely), the game forgot to reset the effect when he was resurrected (possible), so now Kelsey permanently inflicts acid damage on everybody damaging him (fun, can you tell me if/how I can check if this happened using shadowkeeper?), Sola is immune to acid while wielding Kuriosan's sword so I don't see the damage on him, still it causes acidic backlash?

But the thing I can't understand or guess at all is why the Moonray is "hitting" Kelsey instead of curing him.

@Weimer: a zipped saved game is something bigger than 2MB... do you really want one in your mailbox?
...Ok I guess you are used to that...
I will not delete it and I will send if the problem persists. I would like to do some more testing by myself before abusing of your spare time!

Around fifteen "romance" conversations. Sola does not stop in dungeons and will not notice soa/tob transitions.

Alas, the Moonray-hits-Kelsey problem persists... And it's getting worse.
Now it randomly "hits" Sir Anomen too.

@Weimer: I think I could actually send that save, after all... Can I use the email address in your profile?
