attack/move flickering bug
« on: March 09, 2015, 10:47:24 AM »
Hello. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this before?
After each dialogue the mouse cursor starts flickering between the move and attackbutton making it unplayable.
Opening a menu removes this behaviour for a while. But needless to say it gets tedious fast.
Anyone encountered this or know how to fix it?
I did install a few mods but im hoping its a common problem.

Thanks!

Yeah, probably, but the problems description is a bit... for us to help you, answer this:
Which game are you playing ?
And then open the weidu.log file with Notepad in the game directory and copy paste the text to the post, it tells us exactly what mods you have installed.

Yes, of course. I'd be grateful for any help with this :) I installed BG2 and the TOB expansion and patched the newest TOB patch. Then i installed a few patches as seen below. Im playing shadows of amn and the mouse cursor keeps jumping between the move and the attack cursor very quickly in a loop.

Here is the log file:

OK, and then I need to see the baldur.ini files content. The file is in the game install directory, and you can open it too with Notepad.

Ahh, what Operation System do you have ?
I ask because I suspect that that's not the file the game actually uses, but a edited copy of it that's in your profile files, as the Operation System(s, Windows XP, Vista 7 and 8.1) protects the C:\Program Files (x86)\ sub-folder by mirroring the content and selectively using whatever they want.
To get over that and actually install mods, you have to install to a different folder than the C drives Program Files folders.
On Windows 8.1, the only folder on the C drive you can install games you wish to modify or even patch with official patches made before 2007 is the C:\Users\<username>\  sub-folders, where the <username> is the identity you log into the computer.

Ah yes, that makes sense. I knew some games kept data there but never thought to look. The ironic thing is i actually figured things would go smoother installing to default location since i didn't know if you could specify locations for the mods but they were quite sophisticated (alot easier to work with compared to, for instance, fallout 3 mods). I found the real baldur.ini in C:\Users\raecer\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Black Isle\BGII - SoA (windows 7 64bit). The contents are below. Am i screwed and will have to start over or do you think i can save this installation? If i copy paste the contents of that folder to program files and grant it admin rights to move and possibly run the .exe as admin, will that be enough? Guess there's no harm in trying but you might know of a better way.

Thank you for all the help :)

Try enabling 3D acceleration (change the 0 after that entry on the .ini for a 1). It might help with some issues (I had a bug like this (under Wine anyways) and doing so fixed it).

What CrevDaak suggest will help, but it won't be enough, as setting the visual options needs a few other changes.
Basically I think the easiest option is to start the BGConfig.exe in the game folder, and go to Basic -> Hardware, check both Use 3D Acceleration and Automated Speed Adjustment,
Then go to Graphics -> Display and then you can use the very first Unsupported Unlocked modes, but only the first(1024x768), make sure you check the 32 bit 2d Color Depth and probably the Full Screen.
Then go to Graphics -> 2D & 3D Options and set it like this:

Here's an example from one of my games that had Widescreen mod and the Classic Adventure TC mod, and without the uninstall and few other sections at the end:

Thanks guys but im sad to say i had those settings enabled at the beginning with similar results and only changed them to see if i could fix it.

I tried those settings once more but with the same problem. Noticed now its not only move/attack, but also move/find traps on yoshimo. Seems it spams one of theese buttons on and off infinitely. Thanks for all the help but it seems im screwed. Considering doing a full reinstall and check after each mod / before mods installed to see when/if the bug reappears.

This sounds like a problem I had many years ago due to a particular keyboard or the driver. My memory is a bit hazy, but I believe I to press one of the f-buttons - f9 perhaps - to make it stop.

Well, now i feel slightly retarded... I thought i had tried mostly everything. I had tried clicking on/off the buttons with the mouse but for some reason i never tried the keyboard shortcut. Usually the problem reappeared quickly after opening a menu or talking to a person but this seems to have fixed it (tried 2 min gameplay at least). It seems i need to do this each time i login. Not sure if needed after loading a game.

Thanks a bunch everyone. Gonna go enjoy these new mods now.

You are welcome. As far as I recall, it only needs to be done once after starting the game.
