Installation on OSX
« on: January 24, 2014, 01:53:36 AM »
Hi guys,

Just downloaded v24 of unfinished business and i'm having trouble determining how I go abouts installing the mod. The readme says to take the 4 files:

Setup-UB
Setup-UB.command
setup-ub.tp2
ub

to the BG2 folder. Now i've tried all the folders that I am currently aware of (game data, content, resources, data, etc) and i'm not sure where I am to put it. The terminal instructions from clicking the setup-UB indicates that I should run it in my 'Infinity Engine' Directory. Where should I go to find this (as i thought any of those mentioned folders would have had the infinity engine in em.)?

Thanks

You want to put it in the folder that's called BG2 (or something similar) which contains all those other folders you mentioned.

I've got a folder in Applications called, Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition, and I've tried dropping the files and folder in all the possible folders (also opened up the launch files and checked the packaged contents.) still the same result of:

-bash: /Applications/Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition/OSX-UnfinishedBusiness-v24.rar Folder/Setup-UB.command: /bin/sh^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
logout

And this from the Setup-UB:

[/Applications/Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition/OSX-UnfinishedBusiness-v24.rar Folder/Setup-UB] WeiDU version 23500

Please run this program in your Infinity Engine game directory.

FATAL ERROR: Failure("Not a game directory")

Press ENTER to exit.

i'm puzzled as to where these files and folder have to go :/

The contents of "OSX-UnfinishedBusiness-v24.rar Folder" should be moved to the "Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition" directory.

(worries) Did I miss anything, maybe? (I'm a Windows girl, but not a Mac girl). Folks, if you have a Mac installation, I would appreciate a test.

These links helped me a little
http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/16334/installing-mods-in-osx-a-quick-tutorial/p1
http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/17717/tool-easy-mod-installer-for-os-x/p2

Off hand I'd say your first problem is you need to install the latest version of weidu for mac available in the first link.

Now, at last, the masks had fallen away.  The strings of the puppets had become visible, and the hands of the prime mover exposed.  Most ironic of all was the last gift that Raziel had given me, more powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute even than the vision his sacrifice had accorded me - the first bitter taste of that terrible illusion:  Hope.

The archive should be unpacked into this folder (assuming default install path):
Applications/Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition/Game Data/00783/BaldursGateIIEnhancedEdition/Contents/Resources

You may have to alt-click and choose 'show package contents' to get past 'BaldursGateIIEnhancedEdition'.

Also, I checked the UBv24 package and it looks like the .command file in it uses DOS-style line breaks (CR LF). It should use UNIX-style line breaks (LF), according to this tutorial by CamDawg: http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showtopic=792

Thanks for the assist! Will the mod work as it is or not? if it is not important, and the mod would work anyway, then I'm probably leaving it as it is.
If not - if you have a minute, can you please e-mail me the file with correct line breaks(mail is kulyok, at
yandex.ru)?

This error message
Quote
/bin/sh^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
looks like it might be caused by an extra line break symbol the shell interpreter does not recognize, so I guess it's important. I can't check for sure without having access to a mac myself.

Kulyok, I'll mail you the fixed file in a bit, but I'd rather provide instructions so you can check and fix such cases in future without my help. :)

You'll need an editor which supports multiple line-separator styles, such as ConTEXT, Crimson Editor, SC UniPad, or something similar. I think Notepad++ also supports changing line breaks type, but I don't have it installed right now, so no 100% guarantee.

In ConTEXT: Use menu command Tools -> Convert text to... and select Unix (LF)*
In Crimson Editor: Use menu command Document -> File format -> Unix Format (LF only)*
In SC UniPad: Use menu command File -> File Properties... -> Line Separators combo box --> Unix (LF)*

*I'm guessing Mac Format (CR only) options should also work, but Unix option has been confirmed in practice to work on Macs, so I'd stick with it.

Incidentally, SC UniPad editor has also proved quite useful in editing UTF8 tra files for BGEE, since it doesn't lose special characters when saving in this format (unlike Crimson Editor which has been known to do that), and supports input and visual output in multiple national charsets.

That's very helpful, thank you! I'm a bit overwhelmed by the perspective to re-pack all of my OSX mods, but since you say it's necessary, I'll do my best. Will update my topic when the update is done. And thank you for the file, it's going to help me as an étalon of sorts.

If anyone is looking for the ACTUAL CORRECT LOCATION to install mods from on Mac OS X - here is what worked for me on Mojave (10.14.5).

Extract bg2fixpack contents to this folder:

"/Applications/Baldur's Gate 2 Complete.app/Contents/Resources/game/Baldur's Gate 2.app/Contents/Resources/drive_c/GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2"

Buried DEEP in the windows content... NOT THE OSX GAME FOLDER. The WINDOWS game folder.

This is from Baldurs Gate 2 Complete installed via GOG GALAXY. Good luck, took me hours.
