slayer form bug
« on: June 22, 2011, 07:16:07 AM »
Hello,

Let me start of by thanking the creators of Ascension for making an excellent mod, I really like it :)

Now on to the problem at hand. I have a problem with Ascension causing a bug in my slayer form. So far I have noticed the following problems. Firstly, whenever I change to slayer, after a while you start to take damage. Now, normally you stop taking damage when shifting back to human form (right?) but not with the Ascension slayer form (at least, not for me.) when I shfit back to human form I still keep taking damage. Starting 3, then 5, then 10, then 24, then 48... I always die.

It is as if shifting to slayer form sets some kind of variable or global effect in work which is not removed upon shifting back to human form.

The only remedy against this is using the cheat code CTRL+R on my character to "reset" it (that is, completely heal it and remove all affect, this removes bad ones such as slow as well as good ones such as stoneskin) this apparently "resets" the damage effect from slayer form and stops it from continuing. Anything else, I basically die no matter what.

Secondly, it appears as if a single usage of the slayer form removes it from my innate ability toolbar forever: once I used it, shifted back, continued taking damage, used CTRL+R upon myself, noticed the damage stopped taking, rested, and then the slayer ability did not return. Rested 5x more, still no slayer form. Saved and looked at my character in shadowkeeper, it says he has no innate abilities whatsoever. (I could give it back to him manually though it's in the list there somewhere, but it would be pointless b/c using it basically kills me after half a minute)

I already tried the following:

Uninstalling Ascension

I did this, and then the slayer form was partially restored to vanilla BG2 style, only now when I change it's obviously less good (only 45 magic resistance, nothing else) I do not suffer from the losing control or beserker state, yet now I take NO damage whatsoever, and once half a minute or so passes I hear the faint sound of a magical effect seizing to work, the "slayer paws" dissapear from my weapon toolbar (the ones under F2, F3...) yet my appearance stays that of the slayer. Indefinately, until I use the shift back to human form ability.

When I reinstall Ascension, it is exactely as before (the whole irreversible 'dying after shifting even when back to human form' thing)

somehow my order of installation must've screwed up the files describing how slayer form must work, any idea on how to set them so that it works as it is supposed to be? (ascension style of course  8) ) thanks!!!

This is my WEIDU right now:

I'm not sure about the Slayer form and such, but I know Ascension is a very-very old mod, which means it may overwrite some files. It is generally advised to install it first(some say even before BG2 Fixpack), before all other mods. Also, it is said Virtue doesn't work properlyl if it is not installed last.

Thanks for the input. I originally had Ascension installed much earlier up that list, not before the first G3 pack though I think, it's just that it now looks like this after I tried re-installing Ascension. Didn't make a difference in my problem though.

So far I have discoverd the following, note this could not be the truth just an assumptation on my part.

When you stay in Slayer for too long, you will recieve damage as "punishment" and when you change back to human form, somewhere in the files regarding slayer form it is decided that your human form gets a 100% resistance VS this damage you take. Therefore you don't die from the damage. Now, somehow one of the mods I installed changed somethings regarding damage types (this is purely hypothical on my part) including the damage being dealt as punishment, (uninteltionaly) yet the immunity given to your human form isn't changed, so now, I am no longer immune to the damage being dealt thus I die.

That's what I think is happening, now I am performing a clean install starting with Ascension first, then each time I install a mod I start the game, change into slayer, and see if it still works...

Installing G3 BG2 fixpack together with Ascension seems to fuck up the slayer form in some form already.

Appears to be fixed using the solution given in this thread:

http://social.bioware.com/forum/Baldur039s-Gate-1-and-2/Baldur039s-Gate-2-and-Throne-of-Bhaal-Official-Campaigns-Spoilers-Warning/Ascension-slayer-3255618-1.html

will keep you posted

YES I think I managed to solve the problem.

Like I said the first error I encountered was after I instaleld the G3 BG2 fixpack, and I solved it using the link above.

When I tried to install SCSII "~SCSII/SETUP-SCSII.TP2~ #0 #1000 // Initialise mod (all other components require this): v19" i got an error message, so I couldn't install this part... I continued as usual, and now I got everything back to normal (except for this scsii part) and now the slayer change works as intended!

this is my weidu list now:

I shoulda probably installed Fixpack earlier but I didn't dare to at first - then I decided "what the heck, I must at least try and see what problem it causes" and figured that the banterpack and questmods didn't really mind being installed prior to the fixpack (right?) and then I encountered the error I solved using the link above. now everything at least *appears* to work. SOOOOOO in conclusion, I think the problem was with SCSII (at least partially???) but for certain with the fixpack. hope it helps whomever mgiht read this... which I'm guessing will be about 10 random people over the next 10 years or so lol... but anyway... now my ramblings are immortalized on the internets at least. peace xoxo

Hey, I'm having the same problem!

So, if my WeiDU log looks something like this...

It is generally advised to install it first(some say even before BG2 Fixpack), before all other mods.

I am actually still having the original problem Dante had. I already tried using the method linked above in the bioware website - and after this, I was finally able to have ravager optoin when I click my slayer ability. However, I continue to get punishment damage even after I have turned back into human form from ravager and eventually, die. Any help would be appreciated on how to fix this part of the issue.
