Bandit camp crash
« on: May 06, 2011, 02:37:05 AM »
Edited to add: This is solved down below.  Thanks.

When attempting to infiltrate the bandit camp, the game crashes during the cutscene when you are escorted into the camp.  I tried joining through both possible methods (Teven and Raiken) to the same effect.

I'm no expert but I have a cursory ability to use Near Infinity so I did what I could to track down the problem.  When first entering the bandit camp a cutscene plays involving dialogue between a few bandits.  It starts with state 3/10 from _BANDCT.dlg, goes to state 15/20 from _TEVEN.dlg and then state 4/10 from _BANDCT.dlg  Next it is supposed to go to _TAZOK.dlg at state 18/35.  This is exactly where I have the crash - after I see state 4 of _BANDCT and click "Continue" but before state 18 of _TAZOK begins.

I also tried a different dialogue path where state 2/10 of _BANDCT.dlg links to state 34/35 of _TAZOK.dlg.  In this circumstance the game also crashes before Tazok can speak.

As per the intructions I installed BG1 mods first, then Tutu, then BG2 mods.  The only BG1 mod was Unfinished Business and the BG2 mods were Tweak Pack plus Sword and Fist from G3.  Here are the weidu logs.

The BG1 log:

Since Tazok's dialogue seems to to be the problem I considered the possibility that the "Kivan and Tazok" component of BG1UB had introduced a bug, however I've tried this both with and without Kivan in the party and both circumstances still lead to the crash.

Hello,

Welcome to PPG!

Now, the hard part: I'm not sure that you followed the instructions just as they were supposed to be followed. You see, with BG1 Tutu v4, here's the (normal, as I see it) order:
- if you want to play Tutu with some mods for Tutu as Bg1 Unfinished Business (or, say, BG1 NPC, which I can heartily recommend, or BG2 Tweaks, or some other), here's what you do:

- you install a clean copy of BG1, no Tutu mods. No Weidu.log!
- you install a clean copy of BG2, patched, no BG2 or Tutu mods. No Weidu.log!

Then you install Tutu. You now have a Tutu directory.

(Then, as I recommend it, and, mind you, it's only a recommendation of mine, you backup your whole override directory, your bgmain.exe, your baldur.ini, chitin.key and dialog.tlk. This way, if your mods go wrong, re-installation will be fast: delete weidu.log and override and all mod dirs, and unpack your backups).

In your Tutu directory, install your chosen mods. In your case, tutufix, BG2 tweaks, Sword and Fist, BG1 UB. And you're right: if there's a chance Kivan and Tazok may be relevant to your problem, do not install this component.

Then and only then, play.

I think that installing BG1 UB on BG1 instead of installing BG1 UB on Tutu may be a cause of your crash. I cannot be entirely sure, though - sorry! But it is worth a try.

Hmm, I see.  Yes, I've misinterpreted some of the instructions.  Thanks.  Will try to fix this.
