BG1 UB v12 bug reports
« on: January 17, 2011, 10:47:26 AM »
Haven't found an existing thread, so I'm putting it here.

Okay, so: each Weidu mod has a backup folder. During the installation, this folder gets filled with game files, so that many players and modders know that a way to a quick reinstall is very simple: delete everything in backup folders(and restore your clean backup).

Not so with BG1 UB. Somewhere along the way BG1 UB introduced a bg1ubplaceholder file in backup directory. I don't know what exactly it is doing there, but if an unwary player/modder deletes it, the mod does not install. Bad thing.

Is it possible to move the file to another folder? Hells, even creating a special bg1ub/forplaceholder folder is good. Just not in bg1ub/backup folder - people, it's inviting trouble.

Hi Jastey,

Some bug reports.

Only for the original BG1 (not for Tutu/BGT), need add to TRIGGER.IDS these entries:
0x4076 OpenState(O:Object*,I:Open*BOOLEAN)
0x4077 NumItems(S:ResRef*,O:Object*,I:Num*)
0x4078 NumItemsGT(S:ResRef*,O:Object*,I:Num*)
0x4079 NumItemsLT(S:ResRef*,O:Object*,I:Num*)
0x407A NumItemsParty(S:ResRef*,I:Num*)
0x407B NumItemsPartyGT(S:ResRef*,I:Num*)
0x407C NumItemsPartyLT(S:ResRef*,I:Num*)
0x407D IsOverMe(O:Object*)

That resolve several bugs (mostly for TOSC).

AR0512.BCS (durlag's tower)
If... firedrake1.. then... firedrake1A
Must be
If... firedrake1.. then... firedrake1

Same thing for firedrake 2 3 4 5 & 6.

firedrake7 don't exist, can delete the block.

AR0500.BCS (durlag again..)
!Exists("ike2") must be !Exists("ike")

DIGCUT01.BCS (archaeological site)
ActionOverride("Charleston",OpenDoor("Digdoor"))
must be
ActionOverride("Charleston",OpenDoor("Door4101a"))

That's all for this day. ;)

Hi Kerozevok,
I have the impression you are listing original BG1(TotSC) bugs? As much as I appreciate the effort, I guess reporting those to the BG1 Fixpack would be more appropriate. Fixing all BG1 bugs is not scope of BG1UB.

This happens when you press "quote" instead of modify and don't look properly.  :-[

Ok ok... no problem, but correct me if I'm wrong, the BG1 fixpack don't exist ?

:( I would say there exist too many, and none of them is being maintained.. Still, I'd rather make a fixpack than integrate it into BG1UB.
As I said, I highly appreciate your efforts. If you are willing to dig out more BG1 bugs, maybe I can interest you into participating in the G3 BG1 Fixpack. I cannot promise I will code anything anytime soon, but if there are known bugs that are listed as explicit as you listed the above, it's only a matter of time until a fix is coded.

I assume you are referring to your post, not the mod.

I just noticed some really odd behaviour, and I'm at a loss as to why it would occur. When I first installed UB, I just told it to install anything not already there. I just picked up Kagain and noticed that when I got to area FW2800.ARE (in Tutu numbering), he did his usual "I'm tired of looking" routine and that was that. Checking in Near Infinity, I found none of the changes I would have expected to see.

So I went to the UB1 install and this time, I told it to ask me about absolutely everything, installed or not. As it turns out, about half the mods weren't installed! Here's the full list of what wasn't installed the first time, but was installed on re-running the setup:

SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      The Mysterious Vial
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Angelo Notices Shar-teel
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Finishable Kagain Caravan Quest
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Coran and the Wyverns
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Scar and the Sashenstar's Daughter
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Quoningar, the Cleric
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Shilo Chen and the Ogre-Magi
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Edie, the Merchant League Applicant
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Creature Restorations
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Minor Dialogue Restorations
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Store, Tavern and Inn Fixes and Restorations
SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED      Area Corrections and Restorations

Off-hand, I see no relation between them or any scripting in the TP2 file that jumps out at me, but I know almost nothing about WeiDU, so I could easily be missing something with bright flashy lights that says "here's the problem". :) Unfortunately, the reinstall obviously overwrote the original debug file, so I can't send you that any more, but if it'll help, I can send you the existing one from the re-install. If you want it, just shoot me an e-mail at rmorley at magma dot ca.

Another very minor bug - there seems to be no way to get rid of the "Kagain's quest" journal entry (ID 87424). Maybe this is introduced by the above? After reinstalling, I reloaded from the Auto-save before leaving Beregost, so I had Kagain with me, but hadn't yet left to FW2800.

Thank you for the reprots. Could you quote the journal entry? (The string number doesn't help me in a modded game).

If I do a "install all of them" for a new install, I get all components you listed above:   ???

Sorry, my bad on the quest entry, it's actually introduced by Tutufix...I didn't realize that when I posted. Anyway, here's the text:

Quote
Kagain's quest

We've joined up with Kagain, a dwarf who wants to find a missing noble.  The missing noble is the son of Entar Silvershield, and so he's really desperate to find the kid.

As for the install issues, given that I'm the first to mention any issues, I'd say let's put it down to some bizarre one-off issue for now. If there are further reports, I'm willing to try a full reinstall at some point and see if I can duplicate it.

Okay, you said "keep them coming", so here's another one! ;)

Under Tutu, the Shilo Chen quest is a little underpowered. In _AR1900.BCS, the following lines appear:

Code: [Select]
CreateCreature("UBOGMA01",[1736.2979],6) // Ogre Mage
CreateCreature("UBOGMA02",[1754.2885],3) // Ogre Mage
CreateCreature("OGREHA",[1605.2915],14)
CreateCreature("OGREHA",[1716.2970],12)
CreateCreature("OGREHA",[1722.2990],8)
SetGlobal("CreateUBOgreMagi","FW1900",1)

That's all well and good, except there are no "OGREHA"s in Tutu - they'd be "_OGREHA"s, so instead of getting 2 Ogre Magi and 3 Half Ogres, you only get the 2 Ogre Magi.

But: Can someone enlighten me where the "ppglogofinal.ico" file also included into the backup directory is used? I don't find it in any of the tp2 / bat files, and I want to move it out of the backup folder where it is now.

I ran a search on every file in the installation, and it wasn't found anywhere. My guess is that either it was included as advertising or it was a leftover from something.

That is probably the .ico file used in the NSIS installer packaging (the same as the G3 and SHS winrar sfx packaging .ico file, referenced only when the packaging is created). If you are using straight .zip of .rar packaging, it isn't needed unless it is displayed in the readme docs; if you are using self-extracting .rar archives, it can be in any subfolder you want and you just point winrar at it to create the packaging - if you absolutely have to use NSIS, I'd check with JCompton and see how it works.

That's right: the ico file can be anywhere, just point a link to it in .nsi file when you do nsis-packaging.
