Whatever version is here on PPG is the latest released version. I made some necessary updates to erebusant's version and did some preliminary testing but it still requires quite a bit of work, at least for the subcomponents (main component was pretty much done). In particular, the script patching is antiquated and needs some heavy updating. There isn't any ETA on this - as with any sort of modding, it depends on how much free time one gets etc.

query: Would repositing the code, fixes, etc. onto github or equivalent (similar to NearInfinity, BG2 Fixpack and other mods) be useful to you-all developers?

I imagine that would be helpful in so many ways, top of which is one place for users to get the current working version and for a whole host of developers to expand/fix the mod as desired.

It might if there was a "you-all" working on this, and if there was a working version, but I'm the only one who's done anything with the code in the last several months and the version in development is not a working version. If there's more developer interest, I'll put it up (it is also in the BP workroom since BP made its own Ascension) but right now my priority is BG1 stuff with the upcoming BGEE rather than ToB stuff.

That's exactly why this idea came to my mind: neither you or anyOne else should have to feel that you're carrying the load alone. There are other people monitoring & contributing to the mod's fixes, albeit maybe not with an actual development mindset.

There is a working version, buried within BWP fixes. Perhaps another reason for a central locale.

And if someone needs to go have a life and leave off their work for awhile, at least there's a development-friendly place (for e.g. structured revisions tracking) to monitor the progress. I'm assuming ('ass-') that such is a more conducive area than a discussion forum - but maybe I'm wrong!

I suppose anyone can setup the page on github--I could and would do it. I would want to ensure that the most recent contributors would actually prefer and use it.

I'll have to float the idea around some more. Onward to SHS and G3...

Honestly, I think any active modders right now are more concerned with BG Enhanced Edition and having a WeiDU that will actually work with it. You can bet that when it allegedly comes out in a month, we'll be flooded with a host of requests for mods to work with it, and it will be a lot of work. Level 1 NPCs and BG1 NPC Project will be pretty high on that list; Ascension will be quite low (for the simple reason it is not a BG mod, but a ToB one). Your efforts would be more productive to hunt down the likes of Nythrun or erik for the former and the host of vanished modders who originally contributed to the latter. Some are still lurking out there, but those few who had any interest in modding again probably have already surfaced.

Edit: and also, it would help if you want to give the bigg a kick or anyone else who knows OCaml to release a much-needed WeiDU update.

I can only add that if there's a working version, please let me(or, better yet, jcompton) know: we'll pester Jason until he updates the version/readme on the Weidu.org website. :) It's great work you're doing, guys(goes off to play more Diablo 3).

Miloch-

Everything you're saying is sound and logical about shifted focus to BG1, but so is everything Azazello is saying. Having a centralized repository for version tracking and people to submit updates (or forks) is incredibly useful. The IE modding community, more so than any other I'm aware of, is prone is 'lurkers' coming out of nowhere with page upon page of WeiDU updates for mods at seemingly random intervals. Shifting such input from disperse forums to a central repository is nothing but beneficial for the community. Such a flagship mod as Ascension surely deserves it.

There is absolutely nothing to lose by having Azazello put up whatever non-working version you have on github. There is no great time investment required, and potentially something to gain. In addition, it's obvious you recognize your lack of time and focus for such a project, so this opens it up (potentially) to others. I hope this encouragement falls on willing ears  :)

I gotta agree with Miloch on this one (did I just say that??! horrors!!!)-- it probably is best to wait until BGEE is released and see who comes out of the cold to mod again, and which newbies want to join the fun.

In fact if there is a new wave of modding, the developers probably will want a standardized place to collaborate.

As for contacting m.i.a. members - if they haven't answered their current aging PMs and emails by now, they ain't gonna answer them any time soon.

Folks, I searched the forum and do I understand correctly, there's no updated stuff to, well, update, and probably won't be?

I am wondering the same.

Erebusant's version is already in itself an improvement over the one which is hosted now, isn't it? And last time I spoke with Erebusant he said it's a fully working version.

I've no access to the Weidu page, but I'll be happy to pass the link to the working version to jcompton for an update.

It's very probably best if it contains fixes from BWP, though.

The 'BWP fixes' are a collection of all known fixes from the BiG (pardon the pun) Three forums. If it's just a matter of bundling these up to represent Ascension v.1.5, then that's easy--I could do it, just give me a month, or 2, or 3.

Or Salk can do it.  ;D

As noted above, erebusant is one of those who didn't come out of the cold. So I do not think we should wait to see his corrections/improvements. (Although I would luv to see them)

I think it would be nice having a version that corrects the crash in the fight against Yaga-Shura at least. It's a very severe bug.

Hi :)
So, are there still any plans to release an upgraded/repacked version of Ascension containing the most important bugfixes anytime soon?
