RES file assignment?
« on: July 24, 2006, 09:59:52 PM »
Every character created has an associated RES file that contains the biography, that is customizable by the selected class. I can't find the reference to the string number in the 2DA files (which is sort of logical place for them to be). Does anyone know whisch file deals with the strings assignment takes place depending on the class?

Thank you in advance!

Ok, i did the research for you (and of course for gemrb).
You won't be happy. I found the strrefs right in the .exe around offset $451c50.

If you want to mod the bio strings you can do 2 things:

1. alter the strrefs right on the spot. It is the best if you want the bios appear correctly right from the beginning.

2. from script you can modify the character's bio as you wish. You could even set up a bit more sophisticated bio set which isn't based on just classes.

Thank you!

Ouch. I'd rather not overwrite texts, so the scripts will be the way to go. I wanted all the protagonists to have the same biography snippet and the NPCs - their own Bio's, obviously. I am looking at CHR/CRE files with NI though, and I don't see the same set of sound files as in BG1/2, instead it's just named "String" with no text attached. Should I just try to over-write offsets via TP2 to put in a custom soundset/biography or will the good old SAY/SetSound set do the trick?

No idea if weidu handles the iwd2 soundset. Ask the Bigg :)

Btw, what are you talking about? I guess you still use NI, heh. I'm fairly sure dltcep shows the iwd2 soundset correctly.

Mia Culpa, still use NI beta; there is just something... domiunfriendly about DLTCEP. But this just might make me download it and try to figure it out... again.

Actually, if you need only offsets try ielister (only if you got total commander or something that allows total commander plugins).

I can get offsets in NI, no problems, the thing it does not display is stuff like

MORALE_FAILURE or whatever, the common name for a particulat sound file, instead it types in "String" for all of 'em.
