Mod - Transferring Yoshimo's XP
« on: July 14, 2005, 07:33:03 AM »
Extracts from the Readme

This Mod aims to provide some incentive to continue using Yoshimo for the early part of SoA, and remove issues that deal with things like "rushing" for Imoen, provided one uses Yoshimo. This Mod assumes that the primary "cost" of Yoshimo's betrayal lies in losing the XP which he has earned earlier, effectively wasting it, and attempts to rectify that while promoting RP of Yoshimo's betrayal.

His XP is restored to the party after Bodhi releases the party into the Spellhold Maze.

If Imoen joins the party, Imoen gains the XP from Yoshimo ; if she joins at level 13 and has considerable XP, she won't gain as much XP as otherwise.

If Imoen does not join the party and is "dismissed" from the Maze, Yoshimo's XP is awarded to the party as Experience.

I assume that this mod keeps the XP reward for getting his heart to the temple? If yes this makes Yoshimo quite an XP-mine. Why not just boost slightly Imoen's xp regardless of Yoshimos presence in party, she could've gained some while she was "away"

True, I guess it's up to the players to not use his heart, or if not, its just an extra 200K I think.

Alternatively, I could remove his heart from gameplay. What do you guys think...?

Well, the heart is "nice" RP-wise... how about just make the xp reward lower? Or alternatively maybe 90% of Yoshimo's XP should transfer?

it's stored in a global so I doubt the XP can be reduced. Alternatively it could simply be arranged to deduct 200K from the amount that is transferred - that isn't difficult.

Perhaps his XP should be redistributed upon delivery of his heart to the temple, replacing the existing XP reward.

That sounds good, but I don't think anyone would like to wait till after Underdark to receive it...

Taking out the heart would make it impossible to do the Sarevok remorse part of UB (if the timer problem gets fixed). Personally, I'd much rather play that out than get extra XP.

Really? I would ;) On the other hand "loosing" the yoshimo's xp never bothered me (the game's too easy any way) so maybe I'm untypical here...

It never bothered me either, and I usually use him as my placeholder, since I intend to take Immy anyway.

I think that it would be a nice reward for "forgetting" that Yoshimo is going to betray <CHARNAME>...

Losing Yoshimo's XP never bothered me either.  My PC still ends up being able to cast a couple level 9 spells by the end of the game, even with a six-person party the whole way through.

Leave it the way it is re 200K for the heart quest.  Distributing Yoshi's XP seems wrong somehow.  And who was it that said he was just a "placeholder?".  I'll take him over Imoen anyday!  Yoshimo, besides being the best thief in the game, is the only character that can put Amoen "What do you want now (sigh)" in his place without his even knowing it!

Have consolidated this Mod, along with some of other my Mods, into a little collection of Mods that can be found at the

The files for the stand-alone versions will be removed from my site :) Thanks!

This thread can still be used to provide feedback on this Mod component.

Is this mod installable in parts? In other words, can you install components individually, or do you have to install the whole thing?

If it's possible to install the mod as components, people who have issues with transferring Yoshimo's XP for whatever reason could just avoid installing that component.

I have not yet installed the mod, and will not unless the above question is answered.

I like some components (accelerated Ust Natha), some of the other bits, but not all of them.

This post probably reads as more critical and nit-picky than it's intended. I am not trying to offend anyone in any way. I'm just curious about some of the installation parameters.

BTW--I have descended down the dark path of SK, and usually give Immy's XP a boost anyway by that means, but if I could transfer Yoshimo's XP, that would be one less temptation.

Never mind. I should have read the readme before posting. Apparently, it is possible to install some components and not others.
