If I add a new protective spell ... do I need to modify all spellcaster ai scripts to give them knowledge of it, or is there some central location that can be modified?

As far as I know, each and every more or less significant enemy spellcaster uses his's own script, so yes, you should change scripts for each of spellcasters, whom you want to use new spell. Also you could change all scripts automatically with help of WeiDU, replacing all instances of some chosen spell with new one - it would be effective, but highly crude and untidy work :P

That's what I feared. Thanks for the note, anyway.

Hm, they also will need to react to the player using it on himself... more complications.
