The Darkiest Day Xzar & Montaron
« on: March 27, 2006, 09:20:29 PM »
Is it possible to mod both these characters to have ALL of the're voice sets from BG1 back?

I feel cheated! "I'm not to imply that its the creators fault! Its just that i'm wondering if it had to do with memory limitations?"

I hate that Xzar is missing most of his voice sets. Its like they dull his personality, plus i missed the BG1 banters

I tried using CreMaker on to assign back the're voice sets, but It proved fruitless, since evertime i spawn the cre, the game would crash!

The BG1 voiceset for both characters is in the BG2SOA override folder. Freshly extracted from the bg1 chitin.key

Could someone explain if its either memory or if i'm missing something!?

Montaron- Ye goody-goodies make me sick!
Xzar- Must we be so insufferably charitable?!

It sounds like your computer was infected with the W32/tdd.CR@P virus.  :(
<Moongaze> Luckily BWL has a very understanding and friendly admin.

I'm going to run a virus scan to find out! Thanks for the heads up!

Are you talking about the rare selection sounds?  If so, they probably didn't include them, because BG2 handles rare sounds differently than in BG1. More suckily, in my opinion, but hey.

Okay!
My update virus software confirms that there is no virus!

To the above poster!

What about the BORED! I gave the TDD Xzar the BORED voice track and it still crashed!

Okay we all know that the Xzar from BG2/TDD is a BG2 creature.

But i've import the Xzar6 from BG1 into BG2 and all of his soundsets work perfectly.

Hope one of you mods who actually understand this more than me, could play around with the Xzar character from TDD and test certain wavs on him.

There is no virus. Check what it's called more closely.  TDD.crap.  It's not a mod held in high esteem by anyone.  Your best bet is to go ask about that at the BP forums at Studios.

Hehe, they just envy TDD's vast superiority  :D
No one ever will be able to create that much content without the help of: weidu, ni, dltcep. All those tools were created AFTER tdd.

I un-installed the TDD

I'll try to make a mod using the BG1 Xzar6 and Montar6 cre.

I just need to figure out to edit the're scripts, so that its the same but with the dialog change. To match the story!

On the other hand, people were producing good writing quite a long time before TDD.

I was always wondering why did TDD attracts so much negativity as it is? Perhaps some people here and at SHS are still jealous of TeamBG glory? :P

I'm unclear on why it's so difficult to believe that *we don't think the mod is very good*.

Heh, when someone pretends to be spokesman for a whole community, it always makes me a bit suspicious, and that is exactly what is going on around TDD nowadays: instead of posts like "I believe it's crap" I constantly encounter certain comunity members' posts like "It is commonly accepted that it's crap", which is, at best, dubious ::)

Given that:
- The original developers abandoned it in embarassment.
- It's ridiculed by some of the people who worked on it subsequently.
- The administrator of the site currently hosting it denies doing so.

I don't think it's quite such a dubious claim.

(Also, please to not be taken sentences constructed for dramatic and comedic effect literally. If somebody says "nobody likes Ding0", it doesn't mean all six billion people on the planet have expressed their contempt for me. It means I'm not too popular with a lot of people.)

It is all right and good (and I have to believe you on all this points since I have no knowledge on this matters), but it's the players, not modders, who should judge quality of the mod in the end, and I think that without player demand not Horred would have been bothered upkeeping TDD as part of BP for so long, nor King Diamond waste his time converting it to WeiDU ;)

Yeh. There obvious is some player demand for TDD. That doesn't make it good.

But my point was that it makes it not being commonly acknowledged as bad, C.E.D. :)

Bigg, there is a big quantity of weidu mods nowadays which in turn implement almost solely new npcs. Quality? well, some are good some are crap.
What are TDD's qualities:
1. TDD was the first quest mod.
2. TDD had some technical advancements used first in that mod.
3. TDD implemented kits too.

All this was done with much less knowledge than nowadays.
Sure, it sucks now. Sure it had bugs all around. Sure it crashed.
But, which mod doesn't?
And nowadays, there are much better tools.
If TDD didn't exist, i would surely not have joined the modding scene :)
And i wouldn't have started my own modding tool either, it started as a TDD bug finder tool.
So, give credit where credit is due.

No, I assure you, it's quite common to find people who acknowledge it's bad. Look up this thread, for example.

Are you sure about this? I've always recalled TDD being predated by Inferno's Planar Sphere mod, but I don't know why I think that particularly.

None of these things make a good mod. If I played it, I'd still be faced with bugs, inane dialogs and quests, and overpowered items.

And i wouldn't have started my own modding tool either, it started as a TDD bug finder tool.
You call DLTCEP an advantage? NI is vastly superior in functionality, and doesn't force me to click through 50 pop-ups of "The file will be reordered (harmless consistency)" for files that do work in-game.

Uhm, those reorderings were made to make sure the weidu hacks like in the store actually work.
I left only one object out (the store) and see what it caused.

When do you have to click through 50 popups at once???
