constant crash problem with easy tutu.
« on: October 11, 2006, 06:15:08 PM »
hay, i must say i realy like tutu, playing BG with the BG2 engine is realy cool and has totaly reawakened the game for me!

however

for some reason, when playing gt tutu it causes the computer to crash and instantly restart itself without warning, this happens predominantly in cities (baldurs gate and beregost)

my computer is a p4 1.5 512mg ram gf4 6800
plenty of hd space

does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? ive had a look around in the forums and cant find a similar problem being mentioned.

thanks

hugh

Why not check this out:

http://www.usoutpost31.com/easytutu/etfaq.html

Also, you might find your stability is reduced if you are trying to run above 800 x 600 resolution.

I've had CTD (Crash To Desktop) problems before, but the only time I've ever had a crash-to-reboot, I think I was doing something stupid, like running Norton's systemworks or something at the same time. *I am by no means trying to imply that you are doing something stupid!* I am just saying that usually, my crashes aren't that nasty.

I hope you are able to resolve your problem soon. Tutu is really amazing.

ive tried re-installing tutu, i seem to get about an hour of game time and then it reboots. then once this has happened once it keeps happening. when i leave the computer off for a few hours it starts to work ok again, untill an hour is up and it crashes.

i was thinking that it might be a problem with overheating or something like that?

Does it only happen when you're playing Tutu? I wonder why it wouldn't happen if you were playing BG2 or Diablo, or maybe running your CD/DVD drive for some other reason.

Hello -

I don't think anything in Tutu itself is prone to cause crashing, except for the known issue with Beregost (but Beregost crashes do not manifest the rebooting behavior you describe), and running higher than 800x600, as was mentioned.

Two hardware related issues which can lead to reboots are overheating and power supply issues.

hmmmm.

how do i check from the desk top to see if its over heating?

i cant see any reason why it would be doing it for BG when it doesnt do it for any other games, its not like its particularly graphicaly demanding.

depending on how old and what kind of computer you have it may have a built-in temp sensing
circuits which can either be accessed from within the bios setup, after it reboots and before windows
starts up or a temp monitoring utility like motherboard monitor.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311

MBM may not be able to detect the temp because the MB doesn't have the sensor, or
one that it doesn't recognize, in which case you will have to try the bios.

You could just remove the cover and see if the fans are running, if any fan is not running or running slow you don't need to worry about wheather it running hot or not, it is hot.

the cpu is running at 54C and the gpu at 40C

that doesnt seem unreasonably high to be honest.

perhaps the psu isnt powerfull enough for the graphics card.

its not at auto shutdown temp though, so it shouldnt realy be happening. perhaps the psu isnt powerfull enough for all of the hardware, although i thaught it was supposed to shut down non vital components first, not just reboot.

doesnt matter anyway, ive just baught a new computer and im getting it tomorow, so hopefully this problem should go away. :)

How cool! I'm always so excited when I get a new computer. Not that it happens that often.

Ah, I see. Well, I'll be happy with my new computer every 5 to 6 years whether I need it or not, thanks.
