You were speaking for some sort of 'we', and stating that showers are short by definition certainly seems like a concrete statement of fact, not an opinion.  But anyways, now that that's cleared up, we can get back to doing whatever it was.
Yeah, few posts above I mentioned not only my "showering habits" but also those of two other people, who while taking longer there than myself also only use them when in hurry. The "we" was a continuation of that post. But you're right coming back to the main, though unclear by now, purpose of the thread is a good idea.

I forget the specifics of most posts other than the latest one in a thread, which'd explain why I didn't get your context.

What are you, the Water-Based-Activity Police? People can do what they want in the shower, and based on the results of the poll, your definition seems to be the one in the minority. People can and do choose not to sit in a tepid pool of their own accumulated filth, greases, oils, and whatnot, preferring instead to use the shower.

I find baths disgusting. If I take a bath, I have to take a shower afterwards to get properly clean. Body soap is not good for your hair and the residue can dry out your skin. And the fart-air or God knows what else comes off of you when you're relaxed that gets dissolved into the bathwater isn't such a great thing, either.

Anyway certain people don't have bathtubs. I very much enjoy relaxing in the shower and thinking about things . . . having a nice unwind. Just like the soap commecials tell me to.

But here is why I think that, socially, women will take longer in the shower:
1) Women have longer hair. Longer hair takes longer to wash (especially during rinsing.)
2) Many men don't even bother to use conditioner.
3) Women have bodily parts to shave.

Given that a single male and a single female live in the same exact conditions and are completley alone with one of those nice endless hot water heaters like the one I used to have back at my parents' place -- I firmly believe the woman will take longer provided she doesn't have a pixie cut and isn't anti-legshaving . . . it's a cultural "thing." Women have more to do in there, so they should take longer, logically.

A sidenote -- I like my showers very hot, but I hate it when the curtain liner blows into the shower and touches me. HATE.

Ew, yes, exactly!  I had to jury-rig a system with some super-glued magnets on the sides of the shower door thing and the shower curtain to make it taut enough that it doesn't do this.

The person who invents the non-slimy-icky shower curtain is going to become rich. Why hasn't the space program resulted in the development of such a fabric yet?

Sorry for a very silly question, does it mean you use a different kind of soap for showers and baths? if yes then why do you the one you don't like at all?

I kind of can't answer the question regarding the amount of time I prefer to spend in the shower* without sounding like a freaky shower-loving fanatic with a running-water fetish, but to address the curtain issue, I find that wetting the side of the tub (assuming your shower is one of those combination tub/showerhead things) and then sticking the shower curtain to it works quite nicely.

@Borsook - The same type of soap is used for showers and baths. It's just that in baths, the soap residue isn't rinsed away so it stays around and dries out your skin.

My shower has fixed walls as the wet curtain trick never worked for me for more than a couple of minutes. Nothing like a sturdy chamber that you can lean against, but I digress....erm...curtains... not so good.

If the bathroom doesn't have a fixed shower screen, do not buy or rent the house.

What's wrong with shower loving fanatics with a running water fetish exactly? Huh? Huh?! HUH?!
The Wetting the side of the tub trick worked for me for like...8 years or so. So I'd have to say go with it. It rocks.

And some of us don't own baths, so we have to enjoy our showers as much as is humanly possible.

It's like I said before. If I take a bath, I have to take a shower afterwards. This is because first off, I have no idea how someone with long hair like myself is supposed to actually wash her hair in a bath and then get everything (shampoo and conditioner) rinsed out fully -- and secondly because I have to wash all of the soap/shampoo/shaving cream residue off of me. That scum that's left on the side of the tub after your bath is the same scum that coats you after a bath, unless you rinse it off in fresh water, though I'd assume some of it would probably come off with towel-drying.

A normal, no-shower bath leaves me feeling dirtier than I was before I got in, generally speaking. But again, I don't have a bathtub -- just a shower stall, and when I did have a bathtub, I hadn't taken a bath in years.

I used to love taking baths when I was a kid. Then again, I also used to love going to sleep in my bathing suit and not brushing my teeth for days.
Isn't it werid how little kids can rub fried chicken thighs all over their face and never break out? That's not fair.

I just buy a new shower curtain every year, the ones with magnets inbedded into the lining.  They are very inexpensive, about $5 each at Target.  :)

Thankfully my shower has a door and I don't need to deal with the curtain.  ;)

. . . There are people who don't?

but . . . but . . . the ADA and AMA both say you should brush your tounge!

See?

Quote
How do I brush my teeth?

    * Proper tooth brushing technique.Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against the gums.

    * Move the brush back and forth gently in short (tooth-wide) strokes.

    * Brush the outer tooth surfaces, the inner tooth surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

    * Use the "toe" of the brush to clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, using a gentle up-and-down stroke.

    * Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

Ahh! I feel so neurotic now.

my shower curtain is washable. and white, so i can use bleach on it.  when i take a bath instead of a shower, i have to wash my hair first, because there is NO way i could do it in the tub.  i use a hand held shower head for it, since it is past my shoulders, very thick and wiry, so tends to be water repellent anyway.

Eek, I can't stand not brushing my tongue -- though forgetting and doing so a couple days after I got it pierced was horrid. :P  I can't take a bath without showering afterwards, either..connected traits, perhaps?  ;)

Wetting the shower curtain was of limited helpfulness. Any movement of air and it turned into a sail. Tried the bleaching. One puff of wind and you got a faceful of slimy, bleach smelling shower curtain. If you got into the shower and stood very very still it was a go. As I usually have to move eventually, hence my love of fixed shower screens.
Brushing your tongue is really uncomfortable. Are you sure it is not just a ploy by the toothbrush companies to make us buy more stuff?  Also, adding extra time to my bathroom ritual would make me both continually late and exiled from human society, because mine is really at the limit of acceptable human behaviour.

This is a great thread.  It has taught me that I, compared to the majority of others within this community, am apparently a dirty, dirty person.

I am utterly indifferent to brushing my tongue.  I just...never think of doing so.
I have a pixie cut and take about five minutes in the shower, even with shaving.
The blowing shower curtain doesn't bother me.
After I take a bath, I don't have to take a shower, too.
Hell, some days, I just don't take a shower.

My husband takes about twenty minutes to a half hour in the shower.  Of course, it takes him about twenty minutes to put his shoes and socks on, too.  He likes to stop and ponder each step, I've discovered.  Not really in a "stupid" way, but in a thoughtful way.  The only thing is, I don't know what there really is to be thoughtful about when you're pausing before putting on your left sock.

Yeah, so...thanks, everybody.  Dirty, dirty Tess.

In the name of science (and because the opportunity presented itself) I timed a man taking a shower to add another data point to Eral's survey.  With stopwatch in hand and a "On your mark... Get set... Go!" I was confident in my task to find out if men (or at least this guy) showered longer than say... me.  ;)

After 32 minutes, he emerged, but shockingly with a plate of lambchops as well as wet hair.  Damn the man... he screwed up my data, making my research null and void.  If I could, I would have beat him about the head and shoulders with those lamb chops.  :pirate

Sorry Eral... I tried.  :-\
