Problem Installing Finch
« on: October 17, 2005, 03:08:36 PM »
I have a problem installing Finch. This is probably stupid but here it goes:

First, Setup-FinchNPC.exe when I remove it from the rar file is 257 kb.

So I placed it (as well as the other file) in my BG II folder:

C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA

and clicked on it.

The response was:

Code: [Select]
[C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\Setup-FinchNPC.exe] WeiDU version 175
{Setup-BG1NPC.exe} Queried (pid = 136) version = 185 query done.
Newest WeiDU is version 185, updating!
WeiDU files in version order:
  [Setup-Tutu_Tweaks.exe] version 185
  [setup-tutusounds.exe] version 185
  [Setup-TutuGUI.exe] version 185
  [setup-tutufix.exe] version 185
  [setup-sirinescall.exe] version 185
  [setup-IndiNPC.exe] version 185
  [Setup-BG1NPCMusic.exe] version 185
  [Setup-BG1NPC.exe] version 185
  [Setup-FinchNPC.exe] version 175
        Copying [Setup-Tutu_Tweaks.exe] -> [Setup-FinchNPC.exe]: false
[Setup-Tutu_Tweaks.exe] WeiDU version 185
Auto-Updating on behalf of [Setup-FinchNPC.exe]
        Copying [Setup-Tutu_Tweaks.exe] -> [Setup-FinchNPC.exe]: true

Auto-Updating on behalf of [Setup-FinchNPC.exe] (done)

        ***********************************************************
WeiDU has finished auto-updating all copies of itself
in this directory. Please RE-RUN Setup-FinchNPC.exe
        to actually install the mod.
(sorry, I can't do it for you, Windows won't let me)

The file size is now reported as 263 kb.

I then re-ran Setup-FinchNPC.exe and got:

Code: [Select]
[C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\Setup-FinchNPC.exe] WeiDU version 185
ERROR: No translation provided for @14
ERROR: problem parsing TP file [SETUP-FINCHNPC.TP2]: Not_found

FATAL ERROR: Not_found

Press ENTER to exit.

Any ideas on what I should do/what I did wrong? The tp2 file is there.

Did you extract all the Finch folders into the Tutu folder, too?  It's looking for a translation, and not finding it.

I placed everything that was in the rar file in:

C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA

With all the other tutu enhancement mods I have installed, I  installed them into that directory and then I just clicked on the exe, and they installed fine.

The contents of the rar file was:

Code: [Select]
Setup-FinchNPC.exe
Setup-FinchNPC.TP2

The directory contents are:

Code: [Select]

I have also tried extracting the files into the folder FinchNPC and FinchNPC v1_2 and clicking on the exe in the main directory to see if that would work, but the result has been the same. If you attempt to click on the one in the folders in that setup, you get a "cannot find dialogue.tlk" error.

If someone could list the relevant directory contents of a working version, maybe I could try to duplicate it.

The contents of the rar file was:

Code: [Select]
Setup-FinchNPC.exe
Setup-FinchNPC.TP2

There is another folder within the RAR labelled "finch" that must be extracted, too. You don't list it in your game directory. If you are using WinRAR, put the FinchNPC v1_2.RAR in your game directory, right-click on the icon and choose "Extract Here."

I do have a directory breakdown, but I'm currently traveling for work. It will be Thursday at the earliest before I get the details from my source files and post them.

Thanks, that's the problem.

My version of WinAce (2.2) which I was using to extract the files doesn't seem to be handling .rar's correctly, it wasn't displaying or extracting the finch folder.

So I downloaded winrar which did. Once I added the folder, the exe ran fine.

Again, thanks.
