I'm just going to mention Freud isn't scienctifically provable to be right. that doesn't mean he isn't. Just there's no way to prove it.

Freud was bullshit and is universally acknowledged as bullshit by pretty much everyone these days. "There's no way to prove it" is also bullshit, since you can't prove a negative-- which means the burden of proof is on those who think he's right, which as mentioned previously is basically no one.

I can't believe all of the Jungians and Neo-Freudians that still run around, though. They don't even have real psychological degrees or doctorates, and yet they still practice "therepy," but under the guise of being real psychologists. Didn't someone die of suffocation not long ago because a Neo-Freudian wrapped him/her in a rug or tarp or something similarly huge in order for that person to experience "birth" again? Was it a little girl? I think that's what happened. Therepist is a very dangerous term. It requires absolutely no certification whatsoever.

I mean, Freud blames schizophrenia on "schizogenic mothers," which effectivley saddles the mother with 100% of the blame for her child's mental illness -- because she was frigid or didn't indulge some analoral oedipus blahblah. Aaaanyway, aside from Intro to Psych classes, psychology profs. have absolutely nothing to say about Freud. I mean, it seems like they try to pretend that he didn't even exist for the most part.

A couple of my other profs have mentioned him, though -- but they're philosophy guys. Regardless of whether Freud was right or not, he did get the general public very interested in openly discussing sex and desire. Much in the same way as Alfred Kinsey did some years later, who was also modernly discredited -- but not nearly as shamefully as Freud had been.

If anything is bullshit, it's the mere suggestion that almost all modern psychiatrists and psychoanalysts think everything Freud came up with was bullshit.  They disagree with *some* or even *most* of what he came up with, but they most certainly do not disagree with all of it.  I mean, it was Freud who first argued that problems of the mind are diseases and that the study of the mind is a scientific discipline... and I don't think you'll find many modern physchotherapists who'd disagree with either of those ideas.

Freud was a sellout.  he totally changed his findings because they werent accepted by the "establishment". so basically he just told them what they wanted to hear.

That is what they and their families thought too, but it appears they have been lied to or to use a more recent phrase they have been given 'accurate information to the best knowledge the administration had at that time'.

I read that about 2/3 of the fighing force are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan and they could not attack Iran, if they wanted to, but then again it is right next door. Still I digress. I think the phrase national guard indicates that these guys should be at home looking after things.

I am just surprised that Pat Robertson hasn't aired his suspicions about Mardi Gras, the French connection and sinful lust in these parts in general and that god might have had a hand in all of this.

Pretty sure godhatesfags.com is a parody site.

It's actually not. It is run by Fred Phelps (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps), a very evil man.

He makes Pat Robertson look like a Swede.

That said, it is unfair to blanketly associate Fred Phelps and his Godless ministry with the rest of Christendom/Christianity.

Yeah. Fred Phelps is the idiot that goes and pickets every perfomance of "The Laramie Project."

That was the play that revolved around the torture and murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay kid going to the University of Wyoming.

He showed up at the trial of the two guys that killed Shepard and picketed in favor of their 'cleansing' the earth of one less gay person.

Too much hate.

Are other cities experiencing gas frenzies? People made a run on the pumps in Charlotte the past two days because of reports about the pipelines that feed the Southeast being down. A fourth of the city's pumps are now tied off because folks panicked and rushed to fill their tanks at the first warning, waiting hours in line like it's the 70's energy crisis. Somehow, I don't think there will be much positive learned from this experience, like the importance of mass transit, energy conservation or fuel-efficient vehicles. So far it's more of a "Let me get my share before the other guy does."
Newt had always suspected that people who regularly used the word "community" were using it in a very specific sense that excluded him and everyone he knew.

So . . . uhh, New Orleans has, like, gumbo and stuff. You can get fried alligator down there, and it's realy good. That stuff makes it as far north as Saint Louis, really.

I've always wanted to go to New Orleans for Mardi Gras or Haloween, and now I can't. I'm stuck here in Filthadelphia. Our Mardi Gras is only second rate, and since I don't drink -- it's just downright boring.

It's so sad that all of the wonderful historic building in the French Quarter everyone was working so hard to NOT have changed into themed shopping plazas etc. have just been leveled and swept away. I suppose this is the Chicago Fire of our century.

Bons, everyone is experiencing gas craziness. I've heard talk that gas might be rationed in Pennsylvania as they were in the 70's, by liscense plate numbers. Currently, Phliadelphia prices are about 3.40/gal. I am so incredibly happy that my little Tiburon is safe in Ft. Wayne, not being driven by anyone. I miss him, yes. Who doesn't miss their moderatly fast sports coupe? But right now I couldn't imagine driving a car.

It was crazy, too, because Justen and I were walking along Broad Street, which is Philadelphia's major inter-city street, during rush hour and there were so few cars on the road compared to the number that there would have been at the same time last week.

So now that inane "GAS BOYKOT OMG!!!1!1!111!!" chain letter is flying around again.

Maybe I can hitch a ride on this damn HELLICOPTER that's been hovering directly above my apartment with its spotlight on for the past twenty minutes. I swear to God, it's going to give me an anureism if it doesn't go away soon. They need to apprehend whoever it is they're chasing and stop being so nerve-wrecking. Police crusier/ambulance sirens I can handle. Hellicopter, I can't. (Huh, was that a gunshot I heard earlier, then?)

But, uhh, yeah. I just take the subway/bus everywhere. My boyfriend Justen has a bike, but I've been slow to get one for myself. I don't like riding bikes in the street. I don't trust cars. Here they won't hesitate to "tap" you if you piss them off. The same is for pedestrians, but . . . you spend exponentially more time in the street proper if you're on a bike. So there you go.

Rollerblades are difficult, because then you have to bring shoes and carry the skates around with you once you get to where you're going. Unless you're going to the skating rin, a skating-rink themed store, or work as a car-hop. Why, I just hate everything right now! *foams at the mouth*

People down under have gone into a Frenzy cause petrol prices are above A$1.20/litre for the first time in well, ever, Just how petrol can jump 10 to 15c a litre overnight in response to an event half way round the world, before we even knew what if any effect there would be escapes me. (Did someone say Price Gouging?) I feel sorry for farmers, and pensioners etc, etc. I feel sorry for the guys who work at the Petrol Station across the road from my house, who been subject to abuse morning til night since Tuesday. I feel sorry for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere, who are coming into Winter with a Heating Oil Shortage.
But putting aside my pacifist ways, I WILL headbutt the next Moron who complains about the cost of filling the tank of their 'Clown Truck' (4WD/SUV). People have died, are dying, homeless, starving. If you're going to drive around the suburbs in a gas guzzling off road vehicle - Tough Titties! Here's a novel idea, go get a more efficent car or take the bus, and donate the money you save to the people who are actually suffering.

Sorry, I just needed to get that off my chest.
But I have a left shoulder-blade that is a miracle of loveliness.  People come miles to see it.

Absolutely true.
Not falsifiable/verifiable science.
Basically, it is just about trying to pick the lock of  a mystery of human behavior, without having, or being able to attain, the actual key. God only holds that one, you could say.

...and that is pretty much a fact.
Modern Psychology tries hard, but the most convincing so far has been intuitive approaches and statistical logging of what 'the most common human descriptors are'.
Corvis, You shut up, mate. You don't seem to have a clue of what you are talking about, here.
And no, Freud is not ignored.
Whomever gave you that idea? Hitler?
As I've said. Not science. Not free fiction all of it, either.
Freud is not just those screwy ideas about the importance of sexuality.

Oh, but there was this one man who had lost his wife, and he was just so sad and crying, and it made me cry because I'm such an incredible wuss. His pain must be unfathomable. I would fall apart if I lost a loved one in that way. He said that he just couldn't hold on to her any longer, and that she said to let go and to take care of the children. So sad. I hope she's still alive and that they find her somewhere.

Personally, I don't see any wuzziness in this.
I would hope we all have that capacity.
Would it not rather be wuzzy to block these feelings from taking control, due to fear of losing it?
Such as Corvis, he that must bark angrily.

To catch the eye of another human you are confronted with, and feel the kinship.
Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't.
It sure can hurt, but we do need compassion and empathy in our lives to make emotional sense of 'em.

It's the same way with idiot SUV drivers here, too. They just HAD to buy that enormous Ford Excursion so that their one or two children could stretch the hell out when they go to "soccer practice," and by "soccer practice" I mean -- are driven four blocks down the steet to go play videogames at their friend's house, because walking would simply be too much.
