IMPORTANT: Eric Idle Question
« on: August 16, 2005, 03:04:35 PM »
Trying to think of a particular scene, or rather what movie it's from (or fc skit).

This going to be very difficult in this medium, likme explaining a dream, but here goes:

Eric Idle interjecting into a conversation or simply interrupting whoever he's speaking to.  Head cocked, starts to rattle off semi nonsensical list of "advertisement sounding" statements.  They're all kind of a string, logically, and sound as they they've been lifted from a commercial, like some kind of endorsement.  Obviously he's not allowing the other person to say anything, which if he would, would resolve whatever issue it is between them.  It's a tactic he uses often, but is NOT the brave sir robin protestations, although it is a similar actor's trick.

if anybody can think of what this scene might be, what movie it's from it would save me from the absolutely horrible chore of going to the video store to rent each of the movies, lounging around watching fc on bbc etc...

no really, please tell me if you know.  I think it might be Brian, I'll check there first.
Hey yo, I know this dude right.

He's done it quite a few times in various movies/skits, although I think "Life of Brian" would be a good place to start.

Do you mean the guy who has been cured of leprosy?
"Show me how you do that trick! The one that makes me scream", she said,
"the one that makes me laugh!" she said and threw her arms around my neck.
"Show me how you do it and I promise you, I promise that
I'll run away with you, I'll run away with you..."

Oh, sorry, it's been a while since I watched it.

I'm pretty sure it is Flying Circus: I realise it doesn't narrow it down too much for you.

I don't know, I downloaded a "Travel Agency" sound clip that was by monty python, and it might fit your description.  However, I don't know what it's from.  There was laughter in it that didn't sound canned.

i'll look around for "travel agency"- BBCA's got a bunch of fc on these days.  I'll just have to watch them all.

I think the Travel Agency sketch is the one where he's rattling on and on like a jaded tourist about the problems one encounters whilst embarking upon a package tour of India (bad food, 'can't get a proper cup of tea', stuff like that).

If I'm not incorrect, if the sound file you have has un-canned laughter on it, it may be from the Monty Python Live At The Hollywood Bowl performance, where they did that sketch...

Unfortunately, that probably doesn't help you identify the specific sketch you're looking for...

I could've sworn they didn't do that sketch at the Hollywood bowl.  IS it towards the end?  I might have missed the end.
