NPC scripts causing crashes
« on: July 24, 2005, 02:34:20 AM »
I'm in area 3800 (I'm not sure if this is area specific; I've just turned on the scripts).  I have Viconia and Jaheira in the party.  When either of them have a priest script (druid offensive/defensive for Jaheira, Cleric aggressive for Viconia), the game crashes the moment I am in battle and turn AI on.  I've verified that these are the scripts responsible for the crash - if I change them to standard attack and/or ranged, there is no crash.

This is new for v6.  I didn't see this behavior with v4 and the fixpack.  This is a fresh install.  I have cleric remix installed last, but I doubt this is the problem because it is not limited to the cleric (it happens with Jaheira's script as well).

I verified that this is not area specific.  Anytime a character has a spellcasting script selected and Party AI is enabled, the moment an enemy is seen the game crashes.

Is this a known issue or am I the only one experiencing it?  I've done a couple of reinstalls and still it happens whenever I use a spellcasting script (druid/cleric/wizard).

Keep getting unexplained desktop crashes when I encounter the first two hobgoblins around the left side of the Friendly Arm. Seems to be related to the character AI, when I turned it off - no problem.

...Okay after lots of trial and error I narrowed it down to the spellcasting scripts causing the crashes and since I just picked up Jahiera, thats why I hadn't seen the problem previously. If I change to a different script - no problem, but when I put any spellcasting script back on, the next hobgoblins around the bend crash it.

I seem to get alot of crashes when enemies try to cast spells or if an active spell effect ends. Could something be wrong with spell conversion?

I'd rather a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

It's happening in v4 too, yep. I uninstalled the "Remove BG2 spells that weren't in BG" component (or whatever it is called), and the scripts work fine now. Er, hope that helps.
