IWD TuTu would be great. This way you could have joinable NPCs in your party instead of a premade party.

To each his own, but I can't understand why people want joinable NPCs in IWD1? It would undermine the very concept of the game, it's about combat and tactics, part of those tactics is creating a "winning team". Besides I assume that under "joinable NPCs" hides a yearning for banters... but I'd find it silly should members of my party start arguing in the middle of combat or between fights instead of licking their wounds talk about their childhood...

I myself prefer a premade team from the start. Just you, the game, and your imagination.

Because some of us like to have banter between combats? Because IWD is a setting conductive to very interesting NPCs since the Norths is the place were all sorts of interesting characters dwell? Because the banter will be something fresher than 106th banter about Valygar's hatred of magic or a discussion of PC's accursed heritage. Because addition of NPCs with their stories and sidequests will give replayability to the game that otherwise is a one shot, since it is so linear.

In other words, do IWD1 to BG2 Infinity Engine variant, and others will flock to do whatever mods based on it. We tired BG2 NPCs and topics to death. We need another field to plow. Heck, you do it, I will start writing an NPC for it the day you have a working alpha.

I said it before - my sweet modding dream is IWD2 in  IWD2 engine with the ability to have joinable NPCs. It's not that much that I want, but apparently it is hard-coded. Meh.

Anyway, not sure just how I can be of help, but I will help if you start doing either IWD1 to BG2 or IWD2 to BG2.

This topic originally was to find willing to fight with IWD1>2 conversion, as for IWD1>BG2 one, I think that somebody (Ghrey? The Bigg?) has an alpha already, so it may at some point see the light.  :)

That one, I think was stalling because Japeth is MIA again?

Actually, one more question about the secret dealings around IWD2 rules - Has anyone tried, or would anyone be interested into adapting the IWG, inperfect as it may be to IWD2? I heard that shortcuts to having joinables were in, even if ugly. Anyone?

What do you mean about adapting? I don't get that part... Weimer failed to do joinable NPCs on IWD2 engine, if memory serves they were exported as a normal player character then manually imported into party...

Then I wantz it.  ;) So, is there a way of installing IWG on IWD2?  or can you do that in the regular IWD2?

What banters? There not that different from dialogues with normal NPCs, so yeah it's doable in "regular" IWD2... you might make a mod with a premade party (that you choose at the start) with banters (it may require some more effort than in BG2)... now that's actually a good idea. You might pester Domi at G3 about it, she seemed very keen on making a mod with banters that's not for BG

So the banter engine, INTERDIA and PDIALOG are in IWD2? I was afraid that they cut it. Yes, that's what I am thinking with researching - if I could make the NPCs that are loadable in the 'premade' pile, and then addable by the game via multiplayer. And yep, Domi is so in on it :)

I don't remember... I've "played" IWG long time ago, then I was meddling with it to convert IWD1 to IWD2 and thus was not paying any attention to banters... but even if not then it can be done "via a workaround"... why don't you have a look at IWG code?

The idea is good. But creating 15-20 NPCs of Bioware quality seems impossible.

A party has 6 NPCs... and there's not that much space for banters in IWD2 as in BG2. It's doable.

It would still be hacky, due to the join/export/import necessity.

Think of IWD tutu as a new game that can be enhanced with npcs.

No, the idea was a premade IWD2 party, with talkative characters with personality. You would choose the party at game startup and stick with all it's members till the end.

The plan is, at whatever point it takes off, to produce a dozen or so NPCs with a similar amount of dialogue to, say, Finch or Indira-- so substantially more than BG1 drones, but nowhere near BG2 standard.

Ah, I see. Sounds like a reasonable compromise which could just work.

(Then, of course, a year will pass, every NPC will be made romaceable, befriendable and flirtable, and the snake will bite its tail again...)

I think more likely is that a year will pass and IWD Tutu doesn't get made anyway.

Basically, I am thinking of 2 possibilities atm.

1) I have a set of 5 NPCs that have tons of cross-banter already written for them. I will try to treat the Player1 as the 'Protagonist' and see if I can make them talk to him/her. Basically, if that is possible, the scenario will be no different than KOTOR, when all NPCs are hanging in the same place, always available. Only to bring them into the party, you will need to 'import' them, not to talk to them.

2) Use the BioWARE pre-created parties available in the game and just add lots of banter between them. It is very doable, since, at least in my experience, it is much more easy to write banter between NPCs than the one involving PC.

If it's going to be "party oriented" anyway, maybe treating anyone as protagonist is unnecessery? It'll fresher that way, and more in the mood of adventures of a group not BG-style one main guy plus some more or less accidental people. Personally I'd opt for a completly new party then the precreated one (BTW bioware had nothing to do with IWD), later on one could do a version of OotS ;D

I think it will be much easier to me to not have the protagonist, actually, as then the amount of banter can be waaaay higher (easier to write) but I was sort of thinking of exploring this possibility, so that the Player1 can still be the character created by the player. But what I will start with is my party of five, maybe I will add the sixth character to it, since this seems to be the easiest shortcut.

Yeah, Black Isle, I guess, not BioWARE :)
