The reason why I like this resolution better than my romantic gerbil wheel is two-fold: 1) Kelsey stays bad. His mistakes and motivations are brought into sharp relief, but without slipping into the explain-but-excuse territory. 2) The punchline at the end and Merena's ultimate choice felt like a far more realistic interpretation of how the scene might play out compared to, uh, my naked talking.
Newt had always suspected that people who regularly used the word "community" were using it in a very specific sense that excluded him and everyone he knew.
