Chart of Weapon Stat Requirements
« on: March 31, 2004, 09:45:48 PM »
This chart is just so everyone knows what they are.

If you notice a spot where an item won't jive with an existing NPCs current stats (i.e. Imoen and short bows, Jan and light crossbows) let me know.

You can also post suggestions on changes, but it's unlikely I'll change them as I like things pretty much as they are now.

Thought you might want to know, when I installed the Univ. Weapons component w/o installing Anomen's new proiciencies he was unable to use any sling or bola.  His starting dexterity?  On a good note - Love the Pit Fighter kit!

Yes, it rather strikes me that the only reason people get sling assigned to them is that they can't use bows or crossbows, or they're a halfling.  Anomen definitely doesn't seem like the type to use a sling, so with the Anomen Weapon Profs component, he uses crossbows.

And thanks on the Pit Fighter kit. :)

I would say that the strength requirement for Katanas is on the low side. They're rather huge swords, and to wield them with one hand (as BGII characters do) one woud need far more strength than is required for, say, a long sword.

Actually, I would say that 9 STR for katanas is "just right"...

You see, although katana _is_ a rather huge and weighty sword, it has a very unique design -> when you hold it properly (by it's handle :-) ), it feels _extremly_ light (because of it's design which shifts the weight balance towards the handle) - almost like you're holding a "paper sword"... This is why katana is such a fast sword.

I suggest *increasing* the DEX requirement for katana to at least 16 (or even 17). Hey, it's a very, very fast sword. One needs a good hand-eye coordination in order to *not* decapitate one's self... ;-)

Bernard at the Copper Coronet sells a mace called Mauler's Arm. I always let Viconia use this mace because it boosts her strength to 18. However, now she can't use it because she's not strong enough ;D Would be nice to fix this.

Anomen is probably the best sling user in the game, but that has been widely disccussed someplace else. Think of all the great slings around and it is not that crossbows or bows would go unused.

You could put a belt or gaunlets on her that increases strength, then equip the mace, then remove the belt/gaunlets.

Although it is sort of silly to have to boost strength just to equip something like that.  Remind me to put it into the local copy, if I forget.

Ghrey you don't happen to have hold a halberd ;)? STR 10 is much, much to low. You make a swing with something that long, then pull it up... I'd say 15 at least.

Going to have to disagree strongly here.

Halberds are mostly made of wood. It's just the head (and the head is often little more than a spearhead with some extra bladeyness) that is made of metal.

I didn't say it's very heavy, but to swing it with the speed that you have in D&D (even once a turn) you really need a lot of strength. 10 being an average suggest that anyone can do it, than why only the strongest/tallest soldiers were thought suitable for halberdiers(sorry if I got the English name wrong)?

Something I've discovered recently: Aerie has a point in the 'Mace' proficiency. Maces require 12 Strength to use. Aerie's Strength score is 10. How exactly is she supposed to have become proficient with a weapon she can't even wield effectively?

Suggested fix: switch it to proficiency with Flails (which she can pick up and swing).

I think the flail is bit brutal for Aerie's character type.  Flails are about as close to whips as you can get and I don't see Aerie inflicting that type of damage on someone after her own experiences.

Morningstar is more appropriate imo.

Morningstars are also outside of her usability range, unfortunately. (And under the flail proficiency at any rate I might add.)

I think morningstars were moved to Mace proficiency in another mod, at G3?  That was a good idea.

Anyway it was the principal of the thing and not the game mechanic that I was highlighting.

I think it's "specially" edited from an original higher score of Str to 9, because of NPCs' weapon skills on certain weapons

Like Jan would not be able to use ANY light xbows if they're set to str requiring 10?
