What alignment are you?
« on: March 19, 2005, 08:36:02 AM »
I was just thinking about rolling up a new character and I remembered this:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20001222b

(Hope the link works.)

I got Neutral Good.

Chaotic Neutral

A chaotic neutral character follows his whims. He is an individualist first and last. He values his own liberty but doesn’t strive to protect others’ freedom. He avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. ....Chaotic neutral is the best alignment you can be because it represents true freedom both from society’s restrictions and from a do-gooder’s zeal.

Neutral Good - and that explains why most of my characters are that alignment too, I suppose.

Weird, I changed quite a few of the answers this time and got Neutral Good again.

<sigh> There go my chances of playing an evil character.  I obviously just can't get my head around it.

Xiao - I originally did this quiz ages ago and got Neutral Good then, that's why almost all my characters are Neutral Good.

I suck at playing evil.  I try to replay games (after playing all goody-goody first, of course), trying to see the evil ending; I end up feeling bad that I'm hurting the NPCs' feelings, and scrap the game.  KotOR was really bad for that.  Though I will note that some of BG2's "good" NPCs don't cause me as much grief to be mean to, like Jaheira and Anomen - and I even consider myself a fan of his to a degree.  To play a game as evil, I have to play through that way first, then go back and play as good.  I'm better at RPing evil in PnP games because those (live) players "know" I'm not really mean, heh.

I'm such a wuss about hurting Kelsey that not only have I never even checked out the ascension ending with him, I won't even go near his spot in the Government District if I'm not intending to pick him up and romance him.

Neutral Good

A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. The common phrase for neutral good is "true good." Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias toward or against order.

Well, at least the damn thing's still not telling me that I'm Lawful Neutral.  That was depressing.

Oo, forgot about that.  Isn't a ferret the familiar for a LN mage?  (Strange, since they're portrayed as thieving little critters - and fit that IRL.)  Love ferrets, but LN is just... bleh.

I'm also neutral good. I think its safe to assume MOST people are of that allignment. You do know this test is ment for your character right?
Now, at last, the masks had fallen away.  The strings of the puppets had become visible, and the hands of the prime mover exposed.  Most ironic of all was the last gift that Raziel had given me, more powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute even than the vision his sacrifice had accorded me - the first bitter taste of that terrible illusion:  Hope.

I'm sort of sad we have corrupted jester. Now he needs a new title.

Neutral good. Of course.

C'mon Eral, I am not corrupted, but I have to evaluate all that is offered.  I found this quiz rather easy to predict. Then again someone who would be truly CN would not admit that, or maybe he would.

...and sadly no bonus points for me.

I'll give you a half point for that, I guess.  But then I'll deduct one whole point for bringing up memories of IAP bugs.

Just as I thought.

Lawful Evil

A lawful evil villain methodically takes what he wants within the limits of his code of conduct without regard to whom it hurts. He cares about tradition, loyalty, and order, but not about freedom, dignity, or life. He plays by the rules, but without mercy or compassion. He is comfortable in a hierarchy and would like to rule, but he is willing to serve. He condemns others not according to their actions but according to race, religion, homeland, or social rank. He is loath to break laws or promises. This reluctance is partly because of his nature and partly because he depends on order to protect himself from those who oppose him on moral grounds. Some lawful evil villains have particular taboos, such as not killing in cold blood (but having underlings do it) or not letting children come to harm (if it can be helped). They imagine that these compunctions put them above unprincipled villains. The scheming baron who expands his power and exploits his people is lawful evil. Some lawful evil people and creatures are committed to evil with a zeal like that of a crusader committed to good. Beyond being willing to hurt others for their own ends, they take pleasure in spreading evil as an end unto itself. They may also see doing evil as part of a duty to an evil deity or master. Lawful evil is sometimes called "diabolical" because devils are the epitome of lawful evil. Lawful evil is the most dangerous alignment because it represents methodical, intentional, and frequently successful evil.

Neutral
(A neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. She doesn’t feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most neutrality is a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil. After all, she would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, she’s not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way. Some neutral characters, on the other hand, commit themselves philosophically to neutrality. They see good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes. They advocate the middle way of neutrality as the best, most balanced road in the long run. The common phrase for neutral is "true neutral." Neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you act naturally, without prejudice or compulsion.)

Huh. I thought I'd be Neutral Good. Is anyone else wondering what keeping in touch with childhood friends has to do with alignment?
