Editing world map

  Is there a decent tutorial on world map editing? IETME tutorial only says a few words on the subject,
 and I've found nothing else so far
  What about tools? MOS Workshop and MOS Utility are what I know of. Is it enough?
  And can anybody tell me why there are two  .mos files, WORLDMAP.MOS and WORLDMP2.MOS?
