When I really don't want to deal with the Underdark, I just head straight to the Kuo-Toa area and out the exit to the surface.  If I'm really lazy, I Ctrl-J the party through the areas instead of marching and fighting so much.  (I had Ease-of-Use's No Traps installed; dunno if that affects the exit door or not.)

I also like it a lot and I wish there were more optional things to do down there.
Now that I've got into the swing of the whole Underdark thing, I'll probably also be adding some minor new Underdark-related encounters. To throw one that I haven't started on out there, I thought it might be interesting to wake up after resting in Ust Natha to find Anomen having been dragged off by a priestess for not watching his tongue. Any thoughts are more than welcome.

That would be interesting. Are you going to bother writing a quest to get him back? :)

Nah, not worth it.

If you have a women in your group, she might just order him back and scorn the priestess for tampering with her property (as he was her servant and as a lowly male should not be punished by anyone else than herself).

I think it'd take a fair bit of bluffing to convince any other priestess that you outrank her, given that you're new arrivals in the city and basically at the bottom of the pecking order.

I like that idea. I assume you would have to either pay her or perform a task for her to get him back.

Having the option of betraying Jarlaxle to Deirex/House Jaelat might also be great.

Agreed, but perhaps you can leverage your good standing with the Matron Mother later after you retrieved her daughter or the much needed item. Taking away one partymember for a quest or two could be challenging on top of it, if Ano is your main healer or tank. What about greed? Bribe her or offer to whack another rival priestess and turn your being an outsider to your advantage.

Once you're in favor with house Despana, that would probably do, but I'm not sure you'd want to leave him at the mercy of some whip-crazy priestess for a few days while the rest of the party is out farking around with Beholders. (Well. I'm sure *some* would, but I wouldn't.)

By the way, Sim, just what exactly was Anomen doing with his tongue?   :o

I hope you extend the quest to other npc's like korgan or Minsc, I dont know if I bring Anomen to the underdark...ever.

Given the large selection of Temples available to visit in Chapter 5, I would suggest any class of NPC except Cleric as a viable kidnap option for this sort of quest.

Either that, or make the Priestess of Lolth actually capable of doing her damn job.

Also of note here is that Chapter 5 is so short, I hardly ever bother Resting anyway (depending on how long it took me to clear the Improved Sahuagin, etc), so most players will probably never even see this component.

I suppose I could extend it to a few others, yeh.

I imagine that when confronted with a missing NPC, the first thing most players would do would be to regain them. Given that it's not going to be a great challenge to get the NPC back, I doubt many parties would be spending that long without a cleric.

I wonder whether healing services are typically something you'd expect to find on offer in drow society.

I'm prepared to take the risk that it's a fairly scarely seen encounter. It's not that much effort.

By the time I reach the Underdark I have to haul a bag full of healing potions around anyway. So Healing is not the main concern I would guess. Missing out on chaotic commands for the mindflayers could be.

How many players finish the entire UD (slaughtering all the noble racces as they have been almost told to do) without resting? I would say not that many.

It would be rather nice, if the Drow city would recieve a few extra areas as an expansion with a few optional quests.

Although I realize that making new city areas is beyond the scope of the mod, I could make an area or two in Photoshop.

New areas aren't outside the scope of the mod. I've already added a couple, although they're minor because I don't believe I could create larger areas adequately (it also conveniently keeps the download size down-- only around 10MB compressed right now). I'd certainly be interested in discussing new area art, although to be honest I'm not sure extending the drow city would be that good an idea simply because I'd be lost for stuff to put in it (and wasting good areas is definitely not something I'd like to do).

Drow rivalries between the houses (or, even within the houses) might be a good place to start with.

bearing in mind that one of the three is all you need, quest-wise...  i've never had any difficulty [read: necessity for rest before/after] with the kuo-toa, even without crippling the spawning pool.  but most of my charnames take all three races out anyway...  ;)
