I know stuff's been done with IWD1, but has anyone tried and succeeded with any IWD2 stuff? Links to where I can see the code would be especially helpful, if anyone has. :)

If not, I will have to go up to my ears in the IESDP!  :pirate

I believe the two games use the same exact naming specifications for their avatars, so the procedure would be the same as with IWD -> BG2.

I was informed that IWD2 had a different naming convention... Not looked yet though, was going to do it this weekend.

Also BG2 has some slots spare for IWD1 animations as Japh found out; though I doubt IWD2s are accomodated so it would mean replacing BG2 ones...

Yeah, you'd have to replace BG2 ones.  Or the empty IWD ones in BG2.  Which aren't empty if you port the IWD anims over, of course.  Heh.

Oh, but anyways, yeah, it is possible.  I brought over some half-dragon animations in a fit of idiocy once, and it wasn't too hard.  That's why I seem to recall it being the same as IWD -> BG2.

I just re-named the files to something else, as I recall.

I seem to remember Galtygon doing a whole bunch of animation porting that does not use up the limited animation slots that BGII has.  You might want to get in touch with him to find out how he did it.  I think that either Max or Avenger also had something to do with the discovery of the technique.  My memory is a bit foggy on who it was though.

He says he's done most of them, but they're not available yet. :)

It might be nice though to bug him about what his method is.  That way other people can duplicate the work. ;)

Apparantly it's just a case of renaming the IWD2 BAMS to match BG2 ones you want to replace with the same number of slots.

I did some counting last night and this is what I noticed (I only recorded good ones):

IWD2 creature   Files   Number of slots   Weapons   Casting
White Abishai   MABW   24   No   Yes
Bugbear (light armour)   MBU2   20   No   No
Bugbear (unarmoured)   MBUG   20   No   No
Half-dragon (female, green)   MDH1   26   No   Yes
Half-dragon (female, red)   MDH2   26   No   Yes
Drider (wobbly breasts)   MDRF   92   Yes   Yes
Drider (male)   MDRM   82   Yes   Yes
Dark Tree   MDTR   20   No   No
Giant (smallish grey one)   MGFO   22   No   No
Goblin (armoured)   MGO5   20   No   No
Goblin Shaman   MGOC   24   No   Yes
Goblin Worg Rider (helmeted)   MGW2   20   No   No
Goblin Worg Rider (unhelmeted)   MGWO   20   No   No
Hook Horror   MHOH   20   No   No
Cambion (male, dual-sword - Isair)   MISA   26   No   Yes
Lemure   MLEM   20   No   No
Cambion (female, mace - Madae)   MMAD   26   No   Yes
Malarite Priest   MMAL   24   No   Yes
Orog Priest   MNOS   24   No   Yes
Orcish Shaman   MOR5   24   No   Yes
Half-dragon (female, blue - Sherincal)   MSHE   26   No   Yes
Svirfneblin (unarmed)   MSV2   24   No   Yes
Svirfneblin (pickaxe)   MSVI   24   No   Yes
White Dragon (smallish)   MWDR   26   No   Yes
Werebadger   MWER   24   No   No
Worg   MWOR   20   No   No
Wererat   MWRA   20   No   No
Yuan-ti Sorceress   MYUH   24   No   Yes

I seem to remember it having something to do with replacing a weapon animation with the creature animation, and then equiping the weapon on a certain NPC.  The weapon animation blanks out the creature animation, and does not take up one of the limited spots for creature animations (BP fills them all up, and this method IIRC allows for unlimited animations to be added)

Yes, though I have heard of problems with that approach; namely that death animations do not play and casting ones can have some problems.

Sim tells me he's made good progress, btw. :)

Actually BP doesn't fill all the animation slots up, there are still around 20 free ;).  Even with NeJ and CTB installed as well, there's at least eight to play around with.

Hi all,

Take a look at the Black Wyrm forums, section "Tutorials, essays". I've put some tips to import IWDII=>BGII and BGII=>IWDII
