While someone can be sane and chaotic, Minc's type of insanity is definately a chaotic one.

I think it has more to do with the fact that barbarians/berserkers can't be lawful in nature, not necessarily that chaotic = insane.  A beserker rage is a chaotic state. 3e doesn't allow barbarians to be of any alignment but neutral or chaotic. I'm not sure what the 2e rules were like on alignment, but as it stands, his nature of throwing himself into things heedless of danger or common sense makes him far more chaotic good than neutral good, insane or not.

What would 3ed have to do with BG2?

When it comes to things like alignment (which is a matter of interpretation rather than hardcore mechanical rules), I don't think bringing 3rd edition ideas into the discussion is entirely invalid.

If you mean, what would P&P have to do with BG2, then I agree.

If, otoh, you mean 3ed as opposed to 2ed, the answer is "a great deal."  BG2 takes many features from 3ed; it is not in any sense a pure 2ed game.

I just wanted to be sure as this rule quagmire gets me confused at times and I read some books and missed others. Yes, in that sense I rather meant P&P. Thanks for pointing that out.
