IRON MODDER TUTU EDITION: FEBRUARY 5
« on: December 06, 2004, 09:11:43 PM »
A special BG1Tutu edition of Iron Modder will be held SATURDAY FEBRUARY 5, 2005 commencing at 12 noon Central US time (6 PM UK, 7 PM Europe, 10 AM Pacific US, 1 PM Eastern US.) Mark your calendars. And please note that that says "Saturday" even though Iron Modder contests are typically held on Sunday.

For those of you new to the Iron Modder concept, here's how it works:

The TV show Iron Chef depicts world-class chefs in an hour-long battle of wits and will at Kitchen Stadium. At the top of the hour, an insane overlord announces a secret theme ingredient, around which the Iron Chefs must design and prepare a multi-course meal.

Things are very similar in Infinity Stadium.

- I am the insane overlord.

- At an appointed time, I announce a secret theme for a mod. (Past themes for the BG2 Iron Modder competition: "A Hero For All the Wrong Reasons", "The Price Of Friendship", "A Broken Promise," "A Kiss Before Dying", "Some of My Best Friends Are Slimes" and "The Last Mug of Ale In Amn.")

- Iron Modders have four hours to design, prepare, and submit a functioning mod that exhibits the theme. For the Tutu edition, modders will work to a standard, otherwise-unmodded install of the BG1Tutu conversion.

- Iron Mods are judged by an arbitrarily assembled panel on a 25 point scale:

EXposition of the Theme (1-10)
Originality (1-5)
Innovation (1-5)
ENtertainment (1-5)

- Until and unless problems with Tutu V5 are sorted out, it is recommended that all participants use a platform of:
BG1 w/Bioware patch
BG2 w/Bioware patch
OPTIONAL: Baldurdash
Tutu V4
TutuFix V7/V8
And no other mods. (NO OTHER MODS. NO. NO OTHER MODS.)

- Entries are only credited to one author, although it is permitted to work with anonymous sous-chefs.

- Entries may contain prefabricated content, for instance pieces of another mod the modder is working on, or the use of community AI scripting, if that content is disclosed to the judges. It has been my observation that the use of prefab content has very little positive impact on scoring, however.

- It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that Iron Modders allocate a block of time for testing before the 4-hour period expires. Iron Modders are also encouraged to use an external tester if possible.

- The winner earns the right to be known as TUTU IRON MODDER!

Many have modded Tutu, but none have been crowned for spontaneous excellence! Can you be the first?

ALLEZ MODDING!

with or without TUTU fix?  ;)

And from the goodness of my heart I have a prize to anyone who defeats me in this competition - a great honor of coding three... er... NO! FIVE quests in a week's time for BG1NPC!  ;D

Ah. Let's say with Tutufix unless someone comes up with a really compelling reason not to.

Hmm, maybe this will give me a reason to create a Tutu v5 with all the fixes incoporated.

Anyways, this is something I might enter. :)

If you release Tutu v5 with all fixes incorporated and the spawn points fixed before this competition, we'll all be rather pleased/relieved/impressed. :)

Yeah, I need to get a new PC before I can do that.

Maybe I'll setup a PayPal account, heheh.

"If you want v5, give me money for a PC."

Kidding of course. :)

We can always get Bons to design the "I want Tutu v5" underpants.

I will vote on awarding you the title of Iron Modder by default if you do that! Well, if you do fix the choppy movement :)

Jansens aren't as harmless like everybody supposes!
They got them stumpy legs and puffy potato noses!
And what's with all the turnips?
Why do they eat so much root vegetables, anyway?
Jansens, Jansens,
It must be Jansens!!!

Well, here it is a few days from Iron Tutu day, and Tutu v5 is looking a bit under the weather in terms of being... uh, reliable.  And stuff.

I suggest a base platform of patched BG1, patched BG2, NO Dudleyfix, baldurdash optional, and Tutu 4 with Fixpack 7.  Anyone else have any opinions on the matter?

I've updated the announcement to reflect essentially these guidelines, yes.

KK, please, please, please do not change it even if you have TUTU 6 out by Saturday :)

Yeah, the chances of that are slim to nil, since this time we plan on actually, y'know, testing stuff.
