The quest is to steal slavery documents and the like, but no ring.

Brynlaw area
« Reply #26 on: June 01, 2004, 11:18:34 PM »
I've heard from a variety of places, but one of those blank areas with the Ankhegs in it was supposed to be between Brynlaw (the town) and the asylum. There was supposed to be some random encounter there with pirates, too.

Perhaps the best way to implement this is to leave the original blank area in there and then make a duplicate one that connects Brynlaw and the Asylum.

BTW: If you look at the area design, it fully matches of what Bioware intended it to be (similar terrain, climate, entrance/exit location, etc.).

that could well be, but then was there going to be something else for the north forest/smallteeth pass/whatever uses that area on the world map right now?  maybe that was originally the confrontation of the slayer that dream ellesime tells you of.  unless there was already in the game and just deleted...

IIRC, the area was originally going to be used for a 'minor villains encounter', where loose ends like Isaea Roenall and others would be encountered and done away with.

And the Minor Villains encounter was designed as the first draft for the Suna Seni encounter.

i think the cut the ring because Isaea could defend himself saying
"Look they have my ring they put my seal on the papers"
Now, at last, the masks had fallen away.  The strings of the puppets had become visible, and the hands of the prime mover exposed.  Most ironic of all was the last gift that Raziel had given me, more powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute even than the vision his sacrifice had accorded me - the first bitter taste of that terrible illusion:  Hope.

Presumably it gets annoying if the forum gets clogged with people repeating ununsed dialogs/scripts etc that have already been implemented.  Try and post them here, and with any luck someone from UB will get back to us with something useful.

To start, does anyone know what the Dialogue "AJANTI" is for?  Any help would be appreciated

Leftover file from BG1, with string numbers referring to the BG2 dialog file, resulting in a big pile of nonsense.

AJANTI is a leftover from BG1. It's there because BioWare decided not to cut out any of BG1 old stuff. No need for UB.

Leftover BG1 stuff? ???  How much of this stuff is there?  Are you saying Bioware just shoved all the new scripts into the BG1 code listings <if that makes sence>?  It looks to me like a dialoge between Aerie and someone else that I dont remeber seeing.  It also mentions "fallen archer" at one point.  Whats that about?  Im really confused! :-[

All the in-game text is stored in a file called dialog.tlk, and every piece of text is reffered to by a number.  For BG2, Bioware removed all the old BG1 text that wasn't re-used, so the texts referrenced by the numbers are different in the two games.  For example, in BG1 dialog 1000 is:

Quote
You are not allowed entry to this building.

But in BG2 it's:

Quote
And I have cause to believe this? I think not. Prove your intent by actually carrying out the deed, and then we shall see if I must kill you or not.

Creatures which speak in the game have .dlg files, which don't actualy have any text in themselves, but refer to the text dialog.tlk.  While Bioware removed all the old text from dialog.tlk, they didn't bother getting rid of the .dlg files, so obviously those .dlg files are going to refer to different text in BG2 than they did in BG1, and hence make no sense whatsoever.

Yeah, Bioware basically left behind all of the items and a lot of the dialogs, etc., from BG1.  The dialog files, however, are tantamount to gibberish because they point to invalid string entries.

Feel free, however, to post anything that you think might be UB.  There's a lot we've already restored or deemed unnecessary, but new things do turn up all the time.  Don't worry about cluttering up the forum, either.  I tend to consolidate threads from time to time.  :)

so if someone wanted to contribute to UB, <hypothetically ;)> how would they be able to tell the difference between Cut BGII stuff and leftover bg1 stuff?

Well, if you have BG1, you can look up files using Infinity Explorer.  You can compare them that way.
Or, barring that, just post what you think might be questionable and someone can determine its relevance.  :)

i am no longer bitter, but here is a new dialogue string.  The string VIVIEN contains references to looking up something for 100Gp.  It also mentiona Lavok.  Anyone recognise this for anything?

Um, I moved your post out for a reason.  The "Volunteer" thread is to be used by those wishing to volunteer their help, not post random information.  Please post your findings here.

Cut Jaheira Quest?
« Reply #47 on: July 04, 2004, 08:24:23 PM »
In plowing through some of Jaheria's dialogue files, I happened to notice this after you release Jaheira from her cage in Irenicus' starting dungeon and tell her she's on her own:

SetGlobal("JaheiraReleased","GLOBAL",1)
SetGlobal("JaheiraHunt","GLOBAL",1)
EscapeArea()

I'm curious about what JaheiraHunt is.  Has anyone ever seen this in the game?

Well, it is odd.  Doing a search for that GLOBAL in NI only results in the instances after freeing Jaheira from the cage...  :-\

JaheiraHunt is set if you leave her in the cage (maybe too if you free her but leave her in the dungeon/don't take her with you).  There's also JaheiraJerk  ;D
