Baldur's Gate III Announced
« on: July 16, 2004, 08:25:46 PM »
Next Month 10.04

This year marks th 30th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons,  the roleplaying game that made many of us gamers in the first place. To celebrate, we've scored exclusive first looks at Neverwinter Nights 2, D&D Online, the D&D RTS, and Baldur's Gate 3. Needless to say, this is the only place you'll find previews of these highly anticipated D&D games-plus an indepth retrospective of D&D on the PC.

It's been in the rumor chamber that Atari would be announcing a BG3 at some point.

Skepticism will remain super-high probably until it's released. And even then, probably for a while after. :)

TOEE was/is mechanically excellent and very poorly written. Not a good sign.

read the same magazine today, and had pretty much the same reaction.... after my ToEE fiasco, though, i dont want to get too excited.  of course i will still get it as soon as it comes out (if ever).

I would buy BG III if the storyline doesn't attempt to continue the Bhaal saga. That episode is over and done with.

I thought ToB was BGIII. Or rather the truncated, better-than-nothing-we-gotta-wrap-this-up-but-we-have-no-budget version of BGIII. Like seems to be the pattern so far my reaction is: Hm.

That's great news but I'll remain cautiously optimistic. Hopefully they've learned from the fan feedback and shortcomings of earlier games, we'll see...

I know I'm getting Neverwinter Nights 2 and Baldurs Gate 3 in any case.  ;D

Sorry, I think you ought to know that BG3 and Fallour 3 are dead, on account of Black Isle being dead.

There's an identical post on tbg, but it's down atm  :'( :'( :'( else I'd link you.

Why is TBG down, anyone?

Ken had some hacker troubles, and things may be serious. Some info here:
Edit: Oops. This forum link does not exist any longer, either. Suffice it to say, TeamBG has been retired for a while.

Yeah, I just found this out. It doesn't mean so much to me though, because I have never played F2 :(.

You mean Infogrames is developing BG3. Infogrames owns Atari.
After the past few years, it needs an American company, to sell to the American people.
Let's hope it lives up to the name...
Last good Infogrames game I played was Shadow of the Comet.

Actually, Infogrames bought the Atari name, then outright rebranded itself as "Atari."

I'm pretty sure Infogrames/Atari won't be developing BG3 themselves, just publishing it.  Someone like Bioware or Troika will be doing the actual development work.

They have made heaps of Amiga games and (used to?) have that funny animal on their logo.

Infogrames has been in the personal computer (NOT IBM PC) market for years.
The earliest Infogrames game I played was Vera Cruz, on the ZX Spectrum.
They have a mouse/hamster(?) on their logo.

Infogrames also made the Alone in the Dark (and it's spiritual successors, Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice) Cthulhu games.

Like Cryo Interactive, they are an European company which has made massive wealth(who knows how) and have bought Atari (and through them, Microprose).

One only hopes they won't try to make BG3 a prudy-toned-down game (apparently TOEE was like that), and more like Arena/Daggerfall/Morrowind.

and speaking of MicroProse, where's my Master of Magic 2?

If Troika does it, I'm going on strike. ToEE wasn't "prudy", it was just plain stupid. The little bits of "plot" and "character" were sophomoric.

So? Just because they've made one bad game doesn't mean all their games are/will be bad - their other game, Arcanum, is superb.  I mean, if the only Bioware game I'd ever played was Neverwinter Nights, I'd probably think they were only capable of producing "stupid" games as well.

Let's face it, Bioware probably aren't going to be making this themselves - since they're already working on several other games - and as far as I know none of the other Atari owned/funded developers have any previous RPG experience.
