Celile in Brynnlaw
« on: July 08, 2004, 09:04:14 AM »
so maybe this is only because I installed the pack halfway through a game, thereby making me spawn most of the lender's quest characters through the console, but i finished the quest successfully, despite this. then, i go to brynnlaw and meet celile in the vulgar monkey, where he shouts at me, goes hostile, and attacks.  my party retaliates and kills him.  i also have virtue installed, and killing him dropped me 12 virtue points, making me lawful neutral and causing my paladin to fall.  next time around, i tried just walking away and seeing if he would flee, but he remains hostile and attacks, so i crt y'ed him.  was there maybe a wrong way of finishing the quest so as to make him hostile?  (i killed his two thugs in the graveyard, only because the little girl wouldn't talk to me until i did).  should i have done something else?

Bonus points for being the first bug reported. This happens because Celile has the wrong script assigned when you encounter him in Brynnlaw. The issue will only show up with Virtue installed. I'll fix it for the next release.

Oh, I'm glad to know that!  I've been trying to think of a good in-game reason & haven't quite succeeded.

My party lost 10 Reputation points for killing him after he attacked. I reloaded and tried again.  As I never thought of Cntrl-Y, my party has been racing in and out of the inn, trying to get past before anyone hits him hard enough to kill him (Minsc takes a lot of herding).

So far, it's been succesful, but we're one goofy looking group.

Incidentally, does killing one person usually lose 10 points?? The only other time I lost massive amounts like this was when Caera and party attacked in the middle of Trademeet square & a whole lot of innocents died. That made a bit more sense. (I reloaded then, too, and Caera obligingly showed up a little further from the crowd).

How much Reputation you lose depends on what your Reputation is.  A hero who kills an innocent will cease to be regarded as a hero, while a mass murderer who kills one more person will find people barely notice.

I just read the above again.  I don't have virtue installed, and I still had the problem.

I met the same problem too, without Virtue. And Minsc became suddenly berserk in the inn, killing Cecile. Then the landlord became hostile... I quickly manage to go from 17 down to 1 in reputation.
It's time to toss the dice

If you don't want to kill someone, you can always de-equip your weapon and punch them out, which makes them unconscious rather than dead.  Unfortunately, doing this seems to turn the Innkeeper hostile anyway.

But still--this part upset and baffled me as well.  Most of the time when someone attacks you first, you lose no rep for killing them.  And I don't have the Virtue mod installed.

most of the time?  where does your Rep rating usually hover?  :pirate
i'm just thinking of the nameless civilians and authorities here - generally doesn't matter who started it, outside of sidequest gloss-over.

I remember in BG1, there is a paladin who will attack you in the city if anyone evil is in the party.  However, he doesn't turn red, and killing him decreases your rep even though he attacked you first.

There may not be anything like that in BG2 but I wasn't certain. :)

Celile's a bit of a fool ;)

"Hey! Six heavily armed and armoured dudes! I'll go and...punch them!"

I just ended up Power Word: Stun -ing him.

I did find that part to be disappointing and anti-climatic, even without the bad coding.  All Celile was meant to do was try to punch your party members?  With all due respect, that's kind of lame--can that be improved in the next version?

He's no fighter or mega-mage. Unless I throw in a pirate entourage, it's either fisticuffs or run away.

I don't expect him to be super powerful, but I figured that someone like him could hire some tough bad guys to throw at you?

Some demiliches it is then. :)

Okay, seriously, yeh... someone with as much money as him would presumably hire some ruffians the moment he got to Brynnlaw. Good thinking.

I like the idea, so far I have burnt him for 50,000 gold and he has not sent anyone of significance after me. 50,000 is a lot of cash. perhaps he could have a deal with a demilich who shows up when he is in trouble.

Any how so far I have found moiya
talked to celile about her
reported back to her
found the thugs attacking moiya (man they run off fast)
paid off the thug in the SE portion of the slums
gone to gravyard found girl (she would not speak to me)
back to report to moiya
go stalled... now i have the Global code i will proceed ;D

quite enjoyable so far :pirate

BG 2 is the only game I have played for the past 5 yrs, I have played most of the mods (all the biggies (TDD, SOS...),all wiemers, chosen of mystra, ect) play tested the mod that would not die (improved battles) tried to playtest BP when it started out (got real lost I'm not a real computer wiz) watched the rise and fall of team BG ect and so I have some experience with the game.  I think so far that this mod is shaping up to be a great little add on :)

how close is v2?

Cheers

I'm glad you like the look of the mod. v2 is... I dunno how close, really. In testing, suffice to say. Hopefully it'll be rather better than v1.

What's the current recommended workaround? Ctrl-Y? Is it important to completely finish the quest before coming to Brynnlaw? (I've paid the thug in the Slums, but haven't yet found the girl in the Graveyard. I'd already come to Brynnlaw...do I need to restore from earlier?)

It's not terribly important to finish the quest, and yeh, you can safely CTRL+Y Celile without any consequence.
