Abandoned project?
« on: June 01, 2004, 12:25:13 PM »
Are they even working on this project anymore? I haven't seen any updates in here for a long time, and weimer hasn't answered me about being a beta-tester. Would be really cool if they could release this mod soon...

[grumble]

You are the 100th(?) person who is asking such a question

Weimer is around and this project is NOT dead. However, seeing that so many people ask such questions like these and nag him, I'm not surprised if he's delaying it.  >:( So please, please don't ask these stupid questions, and leave him with his mod alone. He will most likely not answer this thread, so that's why I'm answering it.
[/grumble]

Good things comes to those who wait.

The problem is, weimer may be around, but he has nowhere said that he was gone or told us anything about him returning. I KNOW he hangs around, I saw him posting about three months ago. Why has he not told us anything about how far he is doing whatever else he is doing? Why not explain to us why he is away and why it has taken him a YEAR already? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining that he is gone, I'm complaining that we haven't heard ANYTHING from him, he could have made a sticky or something, in the sticky that asks if weimer is gone...

Don't worry, he's still around. I emailed him to beta test awhile ago, and got everything handled. I'm sure he's just tired of people like you bugging him constantly. So what if he doesn't spam post alot.

Well I've gotten a bit better... and I don't constantly bug modders if there working on their mod, without looking for other threads on the same topic.

Some Moderator type should sticky a little warning that Weimer tends to work less on something when people ask about it.

That might be worth doing if it was remotely true.

I don't care if he posts alot, my point is that he should let hear of him SOMETHING. What about him making a post about how come we don't see him alot and what he is doing by the man himself? That way we know what we're all up to. Making one lousy post and stickying it is not that much trouble now is it?  ;)

I believe its just all these uber-l33t ppl who actually know a lil tidbit about the project are not willing to give up what little they know because then they might be a lil less l33t in the super cool BG modding community.... take that for what its worth. Anyways tho, its funny because most other ppl like weimer, who create a project like this for a COMMUNITY likes to hear from ppl in that community, you know, to like still know theres a demand and people appreciate what they are doing. And i and everyone else here appreciates what he is doing, we would grovel and beg at a chance to see what is going on with the mod, given the chance. however, it seems he works away at it, the few ppl who know whats going on keep their mouths completely shut, and community gets pissed, and eventually loses interest. if even just 1 or 2 of these ppl with the inside connections would keep the community informed, everything would be cool.
Like it would take so long to write a simple FAQ on the state of the project? Nobody has 5 minutes to spare on that?

So anyways they dont, so there is less and less ppl complaining about not knowing. That is because, well, everybodys losing interest. so the uber-l33ts should be happy. no more ppl to complain. congrats.

Again, this is NOT a rant against weimer and those who work hard on the project.
just the fact that nobody here who knows anything wants Anyone else to know wtf is going on with his project.
the end.

oh, and calling other ppl in the community 'stupid' for wanting to know whats going on with a project is a great way to keep a community going.  bravo.

Don't worry.  Galactygon isn't affiliated with IWG2.  You can ignore his comment.  :)

Yes, it's all a big conspiracy, and we're all having great fun playing IWG2 right now...

And while I have nothing to do with IWG2, I'm willing to have a go at writing an FAQ.

Q: Is Weimer still working on IWG2?
A: Yes.

 8) It WOULD seem as those who have complained about the attitude shown here have been totally right...
Why else haven't ANYTHING happened here since december last year????

I think the project died...
Or at least every1's interest in what everyone else except weimer knows about it...
And since HE doesn't answer either.....

I rest My case...

(I wold have loved the mod, but.... After 7 months???  :-X)

A: Yes.
Oh. So you're Weimer's official spokesman now? :P

@ Notice: many, many mods take longer than 7 months to complete. The scope and complexity of IWG make that process even longer.

A general observation: mods are volunteer generated on both sides - writing and testing - and too often the mods suffer from lack of testers; remember that weimer is also a very busy guy.  Express positive interest (and a willngness to help) if you want feedback and/or hope for progress.  :)

(and could a global mod please unsticky some of those ..stickies?)

But didn't he write a program to swap it all in about 2 minutes
If I remember right it took about 5 minutes to get the Baldur's 2 game working in Icewind 2 engine. Now he has to kill all the bugs off. Surely that wouldnt take 7 months?
Q Has weimer posted to give his opinion on anything in the last 3 months?
A. No.

I think thats the important question, no random people saying he is hard at work, but him saying it himself, thats the only way to stop people asking.
And please don't reply with crap or useless insults.

don't reply with Crap?   :o  Well, that'd be subject to opinion.

Let's try this: Weimer isn't getting paid to do this; he's developed 9 other mods.  These things take time.  <shrug>  Since he's (Wes) not been here in a while, that's likely the most sincere response you're going to get.
Stupid is as stupid does.

NAH! People correcting spelling is much MUCH more annoying. Because instead of making any point at all there's just really, really cheap insults.
But sorry if I annoyed or offended you with my spelling.
