Two points about the FAQ

Q: Will there be a way to "corrupt" Nalia? Make her hate poor people, act like a complete cast-iron cruel bitch?

A: This is a good idea, and I think there's a lot of potential to develop Nalia's character in that direction, but I don't think it's going to happen in this project. Certainly not for initial release.

I think her corruption would make more sense in the meaning of having good intentions but using the wrong means. In her hitherto sheltered environment sneaking out to give some money or food to the poor was not forcing her into lifechanging decisions. When you meet her (storywise pretty early) she is not much of a mage and a cheap excuse for a thief. During and after her journeys she might be tempted to use more convincing means to 'help the huddled masses' after some guidance from a CN or XE PC. Well, since it is not on the menu now anyway I will ramble on about it when it's due.

Q: Are you going to change Nalia's stats/character details?

A: I admit to being tempted to change Naila to a swashbuckler/mage, given the type of thievery she seemed to "specialize" in, but ultimately determined that it wouldn't really add much to the project.

Egads, I plead you not to. :-[ A swashbuckler should be something that comes out of a streetfighting neighbourhood. S/he needs cunning and fighting skills to suvrive. I think it is a stretch for Imoen too, but arguable for some degree since she is a thief, when she joins you and hones her skills during BG1. Nalia on the other hand is like a good hearted Paris Hilton who knows some tricks in thievery and magics, but not a sword-swirling conman (or woman if that exists).

Actually, none of the thief kits seem to apply to Nalia.  The other two are assassin and bounty hunter.  To me, Nalia learned her thieving skills out of a necessity to escape the keep to do her works of "good".  As her skills stand now, she's probably too skilled as a thief.

Imoen, on the other hand, started out as a thief - pickpocketing and such back at Candlekeep.  Her skills were honed through BG1, unless you dualled her (which, at the moment, I can't remember if you can or not).  With her, I think her thief skills should have been upped because she would have been at least level 8 if you took her all the way through BG1.

Anyway, I agree that Nalia shouldn't be given a kit - at least not for being a thief.

In the case of the swashbuckler I think people tend to read more into the name than is warranted (the flip side of the argument is, do you REALLY think Nalia's the type to want to get her hands dirty on a backstab?) but, yes, this plan is out because it just didn't seem to add any real value.

Imoen was the quintessential 'dual me to a mage please'-NPC IIRC. I see what you mean about the backstab. For me a swashy is always close to a -dare I say- PIRATE. Since it is not on anyway, I'll bug you around V8.

Actually Jester, one of the definitions for swashbuckler is

1.  A flamboyant swordsman or adventurer.
2.  A sword-wielding ruffian or bully.

Given the state of movies, it is easy to see how a pirate could be a swashbuckler, but for that matter, the movie oriented three musketeers could also count...

Of which Nalia is neither before she joins you, I think.

Idobek makes a kit for her that is adventurer and better , but swashy brrrrrr.

Thanks for the opening jester. This is the kit I have made for both Imoen and Nalia:
Quote
ADVENTURER: A jack-of-all-trades, not so much a thief as a character who takes advantage of the general thiefly skills on adventures. An Adventurer is preferred by many adventuring parties, because he is much less likely than other thieves to betray or steal from his own companions. The successful Adventurer knows the value of trust and cooperation, while many a "street thief" has been raised on duplicity and (sometimes literal) backstabbing.

Advantages:
- +20% to Open Locks and Find/Remove Traps

Disadvantages:
- No backstab multiplier
It is a simple kit to get rid of the hated backstab and up the thieving abilities a little. Read more about it "here". I'm pretty sure I'll have the mod released before the de'Arnise Romance is complete.  ;)

Swashbuckler has been done away with in 3E and has now become the Duelist Prestige class.  A duelist is something a noble would very likely pursue in medieval times.  ;) Not so much flashy as skilled in the use of rapiers and very dextrous.  Given her noble background, I think it does come closer than a backstabbing shadows dweller.  :)
