Title: Made in Heaven design considerations
Post by: Angel on September 12, 2015, 04:17:53 PM
As some of you may be aware, I have been working on and off on a little personal collection of mods I named "Made in Heaven" that I may or may not publish sometime.  It does all kinds of things, from giving winter wolves a proper ice breath to putting more vampires in the old prison in Saradush, from making mustard jellies able to hide to making characters roll for HP up to level 20, and from making lightning bolts no longer bounce to adding mohrgs and blazing bones to the game.  A small pack of new items and a new spell or two are also included.

Currently I'm not yet ready to publish this mod as it is pretty much in alpha state (if that), although I might give curious people a preview if asked in private.  However, I would like some input on a few of the items I created.

First, there is my Girdle of Dwarvenkind, actually my second custom-made item ever (first was a Ring of Protection +3, just as a test to see if I could).  Currently this does the following: +1 con, -1 cha, +3 on saves vs death, wands and spells, and grants infravision.  It is gained in the Friendly Arm Inn after returning from Nashkel in BG1, or found in a chest in Chateau Irenicus in BG2 (I might add it to IWD too).  It cannot be used by dwarves (because it is supposed to make the wearer more dwarf-like, which dwarves obviously already are).

What I am considering is making it actually set the wearer's race to dwarf (but not change their animation).  Is there any real advantage to it?  Or would it just look silly to see Minsc or Jaheira marked as dwarves on their character sheet?

Second, there is an item I made for Throne of Bhaal, my Staff of the Legion.  Currently this is a +5 staff that grants +5 on saves vs death and immunity to level drain and necromancy spells.  It deals +2 cold damage and three times per day it can summon two "Warriors of the Staff", slightly beefed up skeleton warriors armed with +3 two-handed swords, for two turns.

What I wonder is, is this too much, or is that kind of power acceptable in ToB?  The player would obtain it from one of Gromnir's wizards.
