Broken Hourglass?

Did a quick search but I didn't see anything recent.

I reluctantly suspended all work on TBH years ago. I have a standing order with myself to try to release some portion of the content publicly, but the task of figuring out where to host such a thing (I forget the exact count offhand but the game data is well over 1 GB), how exactly to license it, and so forth is daunting and depressing, so it always gets pushed to the side in favor of more pressing concerns.

Not to be incredibly nosy but what caused you to ultimately suspend or end the project? Was it just not doable for too many reasons?

I don't know if you have any desire to continue but there is kickstarter and the resurgence of turn-based games. Obviously,  I'm not telling you about anything you don't know but...

Very disappointed. :'(

The long and the short of it is that although everybody involved had the best of intentions, and we actually generated some very interesting and engaging content, I simply don't have the skillset necessary to produce a full-bore 30+ hour desktop RPG title. And those limitations showed up in many, many ways, and were going to overshadow some of the very good content that our designers and artists had put together.

Kickstarter wouldn't really have solved the problem. What TBH needed was much more experienced and skilled management. Only guys like Obsidian and InXile can generate the kind of Kickstarter money necessary to pay management, for good reason--they already know what they're doing!

Too bad. I'm sure the game would have been a ton of fun judging by past mods.

I think the BG modders are well known and well respected. I think BG and modders are closely aligned and it is the rare person who knows about the BG series but doesn't know about the phenomenal work of the modding community. I think you might be surprised by the interest however perhaps the time has passed with the arrival of BG EE and the seeming glut of tbgs games with isometric graphics on the market.

Still disappointed.  :(

Have you considered pitching the TBH project to the Overhaul guys?

I'm not sure what state it is in, but whether it's the publishing and distribution you need help with, or the polishing and "enhancing" it - Trent, Camdawg & Co might just have it covered. :)

There's no single slam-dunk fix for TBH's roadblocks. I'm sad, too, believe me.
