Title: Multiplayer and Windows 7
Post by: Rodman49 on January 15, 2010, 07:51:11 AM
Has anyone got multiplayer working with Windows 7?  I was interested in running Tutu with some friends the other day but it seems BG2 crashes when trying to go into multiplayer with Windows 7.  Was ewondering if anyone had any success.

Erhm does it really Crash to Desktop, or does it just become unresponsive ?
As you can correct that with exiting to Windows(windows -key or Ctrl + Alt + Delete or Alt + Shift keys) and disable the Windows Firewall note that comes up.

I believe it completely crashes.  I'll look at doing some testing next week.  I still haven't read anything about it.  BG2 just doesn't like 64-bit Windows 7 much.

It goes fully black screen, and nothing happens for a long time (almost 10 minutes). Then it comes up with that it crashed same as if I Ctrl/alt/delete out and used the taskmanager to close it.
On my laptop with windows7 home I can at least get into the load/new game page. But it stilll crashes once I press one of those buttons

I play multiplayer with windows 7 with no problem, I believe the problem is your cache.. I normally set it to 1000. I believe 350? is needed to play multiplayer or game will crash. Don't quote me on this though. Just a suggestion.

I take it you have to change the cache by editing the BALDUR.INI? My copy of BG does not even have the option to go that high, even with custom install and click on every single box.

Oh, found it through CONFIG. I still can't get TCP/IP to work. In fact, when I try TCP/IP on my older machines (Win98 and 95) it doesn't work, either.

Anyone manage to get TCP/IP to work on TotSC? If so, how?

Thanks!

Fixed this in Win7 x64 by editing baldur.ini -
disable Gamespy by changing 1 to 0 and restart.

worked on both win7 boxes & can now play multi

I just installed Baldur's Gate on my windows 7 machine.  It will not run.  It asks for me to put Baldur's Gate CD 2 in the drive... but never recognizes it and so it won't run.  Any suggestions?  I tried running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP but no luck.

You need to run baldur's gate 2 in window screen (press Alt + Enter)
then connect.
once you successfully join, press Alt Enter to maximize it again.

Use the IPXwrapper from here and install it and use the IPX function and IT WORKS!!!!  I was so happy when I found this and discovered I could player Baldur's Gate again with all my own character's on multiplayer.  Spread the word!!
