i downloaded and installed the fix pack, yet when i get assigned a quest, it still does not show in the journal section, but only in ht einfo screen.

Are you out of Candlekeep?  The prologue doesn't add journal entries.

Does anything show up in he Journal in Candlekeep? Mine is completeley empty. No notes, no info, no quests, nothing. The message window says my journal has been updated, but nothing shows up. Should I wait until I'm out of Candlekeep and see if it works then?

Yes, wait until your out of Candlekeep. Engine limitations prevent us from adding journal entries in the prologue.

I am getting journal entries, but no quest entries.  This is making it a bit difficult to find my different quests, sandwiched as they are between my thoughts of Gorion's death and how I felt about the last inn I visited.  Is this normal?  ???

Yes.

You see, you have to remember that BG1 did not have entries for quests and done quests, just for your journal.

Ah.  I had never played BG1 before.  This is my first time.  I got the game because of tutu and the NPC mod.  ;)
