I don't mean a dialogue file, I mean your character died and "dialogue" slot in his character file also died... in a way. :)
I was right - the value went back to MULTIJ.DLG instead of O#KORIN.DLG. Okay, fixed - should be working now. Check your mail.

Now, in case I'm not around, here's what you(a general you - just a player whose game crashes when one particular character is supposed to talk) can do. It's a very-very rare case, it'll likely never happen to you, but the engine is not meant to handle talking NPCs in party, so everything can happen.

1) Install Java. Yes, Java.
2) Install Near Infinity. You can find the link in the modlist http://modlist.pocketplane.net - or ask around.
3) Open "open game" in Near Infinity. Choose Chitin.key in IWD directory.
4) Open "open file" - external file - choose .gam file in your saved game directory. There's only one file, ICEWIND.GAM.
5) Go carefully and find Party Member 1. (Same goes for Party member 2... Party member 5. Party member 0 is your PC. Always.)
6) Press view/edit button.
7) In the new window, select the bottom slot. It's called CRE: Signature. Press view/edit button.
8) Let's suppose it's Teri. Her OVERRIDE SCRIPT slot should be O#TERI.BCS, her SCRIPT NAME should be O#Teri, and her DIALOG should be O#TERI.DLG. In other words, it's O#TERI, O#TERI, O#TERI. If it's not, you must edit these fields. How? Press the right mouse key and choose Edit as String. Then save.

That's it.

Hi, thanks for such a quick reply.

I emailed you the saved game because I haven't used the editors before and may make a worse mess than already exists :| If it happens again, I'll attempt to do it myself.

Would the mucked up dialog file cause the crash too, or does that sound like a separate problem that's maybe game and not mod related. I hope they're related and I can get past it and finish playing *hope hope* :)

Thanks again for your help, it's really appreciated.

Hello!

Welcome to PPG. Sorry to hear about your problem, let's see what we can do:

I think it may have to do with them dying, yep. Sometimes a very "freaky" death(like turning to stone) can switch off their dialogue file or their script. It has to do with the engine, I'm afraid.

We can fix it.

There are two ways: 1) You e-mail me your save(.zip your 0000006-MySaveForKulyok directory and e-mail to kulyok,
at yandex.ru - and I'll fix it for you and send you your save back).

2) You can do it yourself. Can you work with Dale Keeper or Near Infinity? If yes, open your saved game(but copy it beforehand! save twice or three times!) in Near Infinity(Dale Keeper) and edit Korin's file - his dialogue file should be O#Korin and so should be his script.

Hi,

Thanks very much for this mod, it's great and I'm really enjoying it :D I'm having an issue playing totl however.

SPOILER BELOW

When I first entered the dungeon, I couldn't speak to Korin anymore. The same had happened with another npc in an earlier save. I thought it might be related to his death earlier so reloaded and played through the beholders in the upper level of the castle again. No deaths but the same issue with no dialog coming up when I entered the dungeon area. it was just a different character it happened to this time. The bigger problem is after killing the jellies in the third area , when terri comments on how he was tortured, when I hit continue, it crashes to desktop. I've tried different saves, uninstalled and reinstalled the mod, but it still keeps crashing :( I don't have any other mods installed except for the tweak pack, and haven't mucked with anything in dale keeper ( haven't used it before )
Any ideas would be most welcome, I really love this mod and want to continue the game. Thanks again for all the work you've done.
