I don't think it's fair to say that it's absolutely meant to be a 7-round lesson on spell protections, lol. Different people have won using different tactics, though I personally haven't fought the battle before. You might want to try using Teleport Field to protect your people, it should help keep more of your spellcasters alive.

Eclipse is incredible! Very well designed and implemented (like all the weidu mods). You think you are powerful, you can kill a dragon in seconds, you have -20 thaco and -14 ac with lots of MR, eclipse puts you in your place ;D. It did take me about 10 tries (on insane difficulty) buty i finally succeeded with the following tactic....limited wish - summon horde of rabbits, the fighters get distracted and start killing the rabbits ;D. Very cool though.

its not really the place for this kind of debate, but i'll say my piece anyhow (sorry tsu') the eclipse battle: the only time i equipe my party with killswords. i don't use cheese at all in the game, i'm far from those who use deleberate bugs in the spells to send off infinite fireballs.... so why should an enemy party do so? i never botherd to fight those guys after my first try.
in short i don't like that fight. it pushes people to cheese. (sorry wes')

I agree.  The Eclipse battle is one of the best ever. Both in Tactics and humor.  First time through they decimated me easily.  Remove Magic is invaluable here.

Wes did a great job indeed!  :)

I finally won Eclipse, after some spectacularly unsuccesfull attempts (What - immune to ADHW?  Immune to Sunfire?  What?  What?  Geez, how did Edwin/Jaheira/Jan die SO FAST?  Crap, they're immune to time stop!).  What an awesome piece of fight design.  You really HAVE TO understand spell protections and their removal unless you just follow someone else's walk through.

Up untill now, I've been fairly clueless about spell protection, beyond the really simple stuff using skins & traps, SI-conjure for the puller in the Bodhi fight, using Breach & bugs on mages, etc.

This fight requires you to really buff up with layered protections, planned countermeasures and some really well thought out plans for stripping the other side's protections.  So, it took me a bunch of tries, but with insane levels of spell protections on the mages (Seven rounds of combat buffs, on top of the basic skins, spell trap, etc.), and suitable protection removals up my sleeves, I was able to do it with one casualty - and that due to my inattention on Jaheira's hardiness, which, I think, ran out

Rats, bugs and LOADS of spell protections = TEH WIN11111

Anyway, that's all.  I just wanted to make a thank-you to Wes and all his little elves for such a cool piece of fight design which also doubles as a GREAT lesson on spell protections.

Happy adventuring to you all!
