I'm not sure if I remember correctly..........but isn't there a mod that makes Yaga-Shura use the runehammer (something about the runehammmer being in the wrong hand or something)

magical armor resizes to fit the user this is an old D&D thing.
Yaga might not have known what the hammer did.
As for why doesn't he have grand mastary. Having 5 ranks instead of 4 really doesn't do much.
In fact the smartest warriors shouldn't put more then 3. Unless your using the improved grandmastary mod which is part of what half a dozen other mods.

Also we don't KNOW his level. We just know what bioware did to show his strength.
It was eaiser to make the fire giants by giving them high class levels instead of making the monster fire giant and added fighter levels.

From memory, the runehammer doesn't give Immunity to Level Drain until you have upgraded it with the Rune of Clangedden. So even if Yaga did use it, it wouldn't stop the level drain from Valen.
um, the runehammer +4 has all the powers of the mace of disruption+2, including negative plane protection. The +5 upgrade adds extra abilities as well, including immunity to Fear, Mass Cure and Fire Giant strength once/day.

No, there is another reason behind this one. It doesn't matter how big or small an item is, characters in BG2/ToB seems to ... overlook this tiny problem. Yaga-Shura uses Shuruppak's plate, no matter how small it is.
He could be wearing it over his head...

No, there is another reason behind this one. It doesn't matter how big or small an item is, characters in BG2/ToB seems to ... overlook this tiny problem. Yaga-Shura uses Shuruppak's plate, no matter how small it is. The secret is: he uses an undroppable hammer with special abilities. It was meant to be the Runehammer, and with a small twist it became even more deadly in the giants hands (it has +5 enchantments for example). Sadly, the creators didn't included the "immunity to level-drain" effect to the altered weapon.

The obvious reason Yaga-Shura doesn´t use it; it´s too small!

Just a suggestion - that yaga-shura should use his runehammer a) because he has it and B) because it would stop valen from level draining him!

Also why as a level 25 fighter does he only have 4* in warhammer and not 5* at the very least. Never mind making him dual wield runehammer and a +3 hammer, +3* dual wield which would be my suggestion for making him harder.
