Reinstalling "randomise treasure" will f up your inventory, as it RE-randomises everything... (i seem to recall i stopped and uninstalled the game last time i had a wack at iwd2, and tried doing that...)

Rinky's solution is fine IF you have a save not too long before "ar4102" (or havent just cleared the area, as was my case 2 hours ago).
In this case a spot on solution right when you need it is to use Near Infinity v1.32.1 by Jon Olav Hauglid:

http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/dl.php?s=IEM&f=IEmodding/NearInfinity.rar

Make an extra game-save to edit (in case shit happens), load NearInfinity, under mpsave select the saved game, chose the *.SAV file, press decompress, select ar4102 and press view/edit, in actors menu select Nickademus and view/edit, click edit tab, scroll down and select CRE under attribute and press view/edit.
Near the bottom of the list is his inventory armor weapon ect. listed - chose every INVENTORY attribute containing an item and click remove. Change every value of armor, weapon and so on to -1 too.
Now close the CRE, actor and ar4102 windows and click save changes. Then click compress back in main window and your done - now load the saved game and say hello to nicko.

Hope this saves a bit of grief and time!

- a disciple of Reinholt

PS. use dale keeper II to explore the CRE file (for Nic or whoever) with a bit of graphical assistance...

I know its an old old topic now, but i used to have the same problems and recently sorted out what i feel is the best way to avoid any problems.

I think problems occur when unusable items get placed in creature's equipment slots or when usuable items are placed in wrong equipment slots; so that when for exmaple nickademus wakes up the game tries to put a shield on his head or the super evil staff in his neutral good hands. The randomise treasure mod places items into a price category then jumbles them around based on a random seed, not into item type categories first, so it is more than likely a helmet my become a shield.

The easiest way to avoid any problems is to remove all the items of the creature/character you're having difficulties with using an editor. Dale keeper II ver. 5 is available at mud-master.com:

http://www.mud-master.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=12443cf07863f27e834b764fc098be93&topic=1712.0

which allows you to edit the inventory of any creature in the game. Make sure to tick the overwrite .cre files in the tools dropbox, then find nickademus (or whoever) edit his inventory, remove all the items and save as an overwrite. Regardless of the random seed nickademus now never has any items to get muddled.

This has to be done prior to entering the area with the character in ("ar4102" for nic) so that the game loads the overwirtten character in. It won't work if you've already entered the area, go back to an autosave a carry on from there if necessary.

The other more tedious option is to uninstall randomise treasure, load game and talk to nic, the re-install after he's been spoken to.

Hope this was useful to someone...!

The author currently isn't around, so I wouldn't expect a quick fix, if one will be there at all.

hmm, that's valuable information!  :o :'(

Good day to all!

I am allsow playing IWD2 with the official patch (v.2.01) + Ease-of-Use (Release 15) + Undead Targos (Release 6) + Bonus Merchant (Release 4) and, like Bloodtitan, am experienceing some "minor inconviniances". To be more precise, I get a error mesage and the game simultainously crashes when I go into the Targos wearehouse, where I'm suposed to find the cave entrence. Quote: "An Assertion failed in ObjAnimation.cpp at line number 24255". At first I've tryed to see if it's some item I have,  or some choice I've made; thus I started a new game and went straight to the aforementioned warehouse... same result! Now I'm positive that this comes from the "Randomized Treasure" component since I ownly needed to uninstall it to fix the problem.
I just wanted to add this error log to the others for the benefit of all IWD2 kind... and me, of course (I'm eagerly awayting a bug fix on this one... sadly, as it seems, I have a long wait ahead of me... oh well... I still have the other add-ons :) )

P.S.: As a side-note, it seems that all basic helmets (as far as I've seen) convert to Books of the Deserving, not that I'm complaining, but is this realy the ownly item of similar value?? A bit odd if you're not a priest of tempus; then again, what do you want for an item that costs 2 gold coins in stores?.

I take this oportunity and give my thanks to Weimer, the original authors and all hwo in some way contributed to these great IWD2 add-ons!

Good night to all! (Yes, it's now night... well, it wasen't exactly day when I started wrighting this, but WTH. ;D )

How did you solve it?i have this prob...
I cannot figure out what to do:/

Just rerun the file: Setup-IWD2-Ease.exe in your Icewind Dale 2 folder and follow the directions.

When it asks you what to do with components NOT YET INSTALLED say (S)kip. *Only if you do have uninstalled components*

When it asks about what to do with components ALREADY INSTALLED say (A)SK about each one. Then when you find the Randomized Treasure component choose to (U)NINSTALL it.

QUIT

This component is buggy and shouldn't be installed until it is fixed.

From the readme (heed the warning)...

                                     Randomized Treasure
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IWD2 nominally has randomized treasure drops ... but if you've played the
game a few times you've probably noticed that there really isn't all that
much variation. This component swaps around items that were given similar
values by the game designers (e.g., all items that cost 50 gold might be
randomly permuted). This includes items that you can buy in stores but not
(hopefully!) special items like keys or whatnot. Items that cannot be
stacked will only be swapped with other items that cannot be stacked (e.g.,
the staff of corrosion and a sling of resistance might be swapped). Items
that can be stacked will only be swapped with other items that can be
stacked (e.g., arrows of lesser dispelling might get swapped with scrolls
of aegis or sunstone gems).
Note that this make make some bits of the game look a little strange (e.g., a
dwarf that claims to give you an axe may in fact give you a longbow) but it
should at least add some variety.
Note that installing this component will swap around the equipment already
carried by your parties, which might yield some "interesting" results. I
may think of a better way to do this later.
If you don't like the default random distribution, you can change the
RANDOM_SEED in Setup-IWD2-Ease.tp2 and re-install this component.
WARNING: Remove all items from all character before UNINSTALLING this
component because when you uninstall it the items will revert to their
original forms and you may end up with strange combinations (like wearing a
ring in your bow slot or something).
THANK YOU! Damn, I was so annoyed at having that dude crash the game every time I got near him enough to wake him up. And having all sorts of weird shit pop in from quests instead of the real reward. Bleh.
got it now.
bug comes from the random treasure feature (dont know why ...) which also caused a couple of quest items to be substituted with others (eg : thrym extract was pro cold scroll). i found the bug with try-and-error by uninstalling components of the ease-of-use mod. hopefully the bug can be eliminated because i liked the random treasure feat, it was nearly the best improvement.
i am playing iwd2 2.01 (european version) with the following mods : ease-of-use , undead-targos , and bonus merchant.
i got a problem with nickademus awaking ... i touched his closet and waited some seconds for him to spawn.
then game crashed (i think with asssertion error). sadly i cant post the exact error because now the message doesnt show up any more, game just freezes and i have to reboot. all i can say is the first 2 numbers (of 5) of the assertion error line : 18xxx
i reloaded and tried to pass the situation again but the game crashes all the time. as undead targos mod and bonus merchant mod dont affect the ice temple the bug must come from ease-of-use mod
