Uber Liches and undead problems

When I walk into the Temple Ruins, the liches immediately know I am there and start complaining about being manipulated and so on, before any creature of mine has engaged them or I've done anything to annoy them properly. They then Time Stop everything and jump me before I have a chance to do anything at all, and my character winds up dead.

I think this has something to do with ToB: when I first installed the expansion, I noticed that they had done something that caused certain encounters (the Drow Egg Guards, the Solamnic Knights as they are preparing to leave) to "see" you when you are anywhere on the same map. The liches seem to be behaving the same way, which makes entering an area with one problematic: it reverses the problem, making them able to do things while you have no chance of stopping them rather than the other way around.

Also, it seems that the hordes of Shadows toss around Rays of Enfeeblement a lot. This wouldn't bother me overly much, except that unless I'm mistaken (and I could be, lots of script on the page) it is lethal. Minsc keeps being killed, and the only effect I see is the Enfeeblement just before he dies. He's at full hit points when he drops. Is this supposed to happen, like the Mind Flayer INT drain?

Time to remove those until my party's a bit more powerful, I think.
