Auto-Buff Scripts
« on: August 24, 2002, 03:53:41 PM »
Due to non-zero demand, I will be posting my auto-buff scripts shortly. These scripts make use of a special version of alacrity that allows mages/clerics to cast all of their buffs in roughly 0 time if there are no enemies nearby. Buffing is triggered by keypresses: one for long-lasting buffs, one for short-lasting buffs.

The buffs are applied in the optimal order, but since they are all cast in the same round you will get a few extra rounds for some spells (compared to casting them all sequentially): true purists should stay away. However, most fights are over before short-lived buffs wear off naturally anyway, and the point here is to save you the player timer and effort.

Weimer, what do you mean by true purists? Have you noticed how many of us have wished to cast buffing spells in a zero-Irenicus-like time? Even without an enemy in sight?

Question:
How do they...work?  I noticed Solaufein-72 is an exe file rather than a .zip file (which makes the installation instructions obsolete).  I double-clicked on it and told it the location of my BG2 folder, then I double-clicked on Solaufein-Setup.  No auto-buff scripts option.  No auto-buff scripts when I loaded my saved game.

Edit: I just looked over the ReadMe and realized the problem: They're part of the Solaufein Romance component of the Solaufein Romance mod.

This strikes me as a strange decision (unless they only work for Solaufein, auto-buff scripts really have nothing to do with romancing Solaufein), but it's your mod.

I have a problem to report with the auto-buff scripts.
They use Shield.  Shield only works on the caster.  They target CharName first.  If someone else happens to be a mage with Shields, that means that character will cast Shield in the direction of CharName, become Shielded (because it only works on the caster), then, seeing CharName is unShielded, cast it again.  And again, until that character is layered in all the (nonstacking) Shields s/he had memorized.

The bug here is that they are targeting Player1 instead of Myself, but it doesn't really matter. They are intentionally casting Shield multiple times because the +2 AC vs. Missiles bonus stacks. I'll fix the targeting "appearance" in the next release.
