Allignment Issues
« on: May 14, 2004, 03:10:37 PM »
Everything about the LG alignment sayas that they are the people who join a corrupt system from within to change it, while CG people smash it down and build a new one. Nalia seems to be a LG person. Really, despite the fact that she breaks tradition, her ideas on how ot solve things are LG-oriented, and she displays some very anti-chaotic feelings in the game. Daleson's comment about her aunt, her refusal to belive Isea could be evil, her statement that peasants need people to lead them around, ect.

JC, please make this better than Arnel's bug-ridden one.

She's probably more Neutral Good, really. She'll usually work within the law, but will break it if necessary. For example, she'd break into the slave ship to free em, probably. But she does display Lawful ideals in the long run, like wanting to get INTO the Co6 and change the laws from there. If she was chaotic then she'd just go up and smash em all down. Really, Nalia's nothing like Minsc. But there's no real need to change her allignment or anything.

Remember alignment is jsut a guideline, not a ball and chain.  She doesn't have to follow it to the letter.  This grants some leeway in choosign her behavior.  The major thing that probably made them call her CG is that she doesn't exactly follow the usual behavior for a noble.

I think it could be argued that as her dissatisfaction becomes more focused in TOB she shifts away from the chaotic mindset, but it's true enough that unlike the "classical" chaotic definition, she does put a certain stock in establishments and institutions, even if she's not fully aware of how much she's doing it.

Also, if you summon her from the Fate Spirit in the Pocket Plane, she's Neutral Good, & CHARNAME gets to comment on her "new attitude" toward the world.

If you summon her, she's still CG on the character sheet.

Considering the sheer number of other NPCs in ToB who express concern or (for Evil Sarevok) glee that Nalia is letting her power go to her head, I'd caution you not to treat her viewpoint change in ToB as something completely, inarguably positive.

Had already occurred to me, but, yes, noted once more. Part of the question is deciding how that "natural" portion of Nalia's evolution will look once she's in the <CHARNAME> Sphere Of Influence.

which extra-begs the question of a paternal/parental figure (is this *exclusively* focused on romance with a male PC for the first release, or are you inserting a few alternatives?)  could be reflected not only in dialogue, but perhaps heavily on the tactics in restoring the keep... and class (does she feel safer around a cleric of lathander or a barbarian?  how about a barbarian with murder in its blood?)... will having keldorn in the party tangibly contribute to her stability and decision-making capacities?
the lord of murder shall perish, yadda yadda yadda.
