Not a great deal. I partly blame WeiDU and READ_2DA_ENTRY not working as I'd like it to... but I've also been doing other stuff like Quest Pack and...

SEKRIT.

I can get more XP by talking to my shoes. :D
Just don't talk down to them, they hate that.

Anyway, just wanted to mention that, for what it's worth, I completely overhauled every single Sahuagin critter in the game (and sent them to Weimer, but I hear he's on vacation), and my method of EXP smoothing was to have the EXP awarded for each kill be 0.5% of the EXP that that creature would have needed to reach its current level. King Ixilthetocal is a Level 20 Fighter, which means he needs 3 million EXP, which means you get 15,000 for killing him. In comparison, the "roadkill" Sahuagin that you find in places like the Planar Sphere are worth around 42 EXP. The Healing Potions they carry are also based on this calculation.

The downside to this method is that it only works on creatures who are of a legitimate Class--calculating the EXP required to become a Level 13 Mage is easy, but what do you do with a Level 4 Ogre?

can't you just count the xp lvl based?

the higher your lvl is the less xp you get from monsters for example -5% or -10% xp drop for affected creature per lvl upgrade

i think that would be much easier :P

LOL

I cannot recall what you get for a common Saghuagin 'roadkill' :D usually, but this would be an interesting approach. I agree that adding something like the no XP goblins when you are level 25 like IWD2 would also be nice. After a while a god doesn't earn any learning experience from trampling on peons, so it would only be fair.

But then in addition to the individual XP becoming less valuable, you get fewer.  Eventually you find even tough enemies gving little XP.  I say, take the average XP require for a character to reach a level and base the XP% off of that.

It's impossible to vary creature XP rewards depending on party level. It IS possible to vary quest rewards depending on party level, and that's one of the things the mod will allow.

Well, the only way I can think of possibly doing that would be to set all creatures XP to 0 and then use a *boatload* of script blocks in baldur.bcs or something.

IF
     LevelParty(1)
     Died([0.0.HOBGOBLIN])
THEN
          RESPONSE #100
              AddexperienceParty(200)
END

I'm not even sure if the Died or Killed triggers actually work the way they're supposed to either.

Or did you have something else figured out igi?

Quest XP is exactly the kind of one off XP that should not be limited, because being rewarded for helping Trademeet or cleaning the castle should be a fixed amount IMHO. Killing critters is repetitive and you get too good at it for still gaining any points for a simple skeleton after teh first three dozen. Dragons and big creatures should be an exception though.

You can use xplist.2da, but it doesnt work when used in a Die() trigger (game crashes), or you can cast a spell on a party member, and detect the level through that, then set a global, or use the XP effect or something,

So yeh. There's no way of doing it. :)

xplist.2da will work nicely for quest XP though.

Perhaps getting experience for successfully turning undead?

well from what i know
how much u can kill with turning is lvl based of the character who uses it..

so this should be done with xp too right?

somewhat same system
but instead of higher lvl more turning

u get higher lvl less xp ? :D

or is this just a bad idea?:D

* Idobek looks further up the thread

I knew there was a discussion about less xp at higher levels being unworkable somewhere.

How does IWD2 manage that? IIRC you get less XP the further you advancein levels.

IWD2 manages it by virtue of being IWD2.
ie. IWD2 != BG2.
ie. It's hard-coded in the .exe (possibly).

Thanks igi. :)

' IWD2 != BG2.' Is a bit too technical for me
'It's hard-coded in the .exe (possibly).' is much better. Weimers EoU for IWD2 has an option to disable that feature so it might as well not have been.
