That's a big question if you're a novice!
The short answer is that you should look around the tutorials at
http://tutorials.teambg.net. Also, when you can speak the basic language of Weidu, look at the way item importation is done in other WeiDU mods.
Then there's the long answer:
Ok, items are mainly made up of their .itm (the actual Item) and .bam (pictures of how they appear in-game) files.
To make the .itm file, you need IEEP (Infinity Engine Editor Pro) fromÂ
http://teambg.net/?page=tools/basiccustomizingand a good tutorial.
A good basic item making tutorial was written by Sim and you'll find it here
http://tutorials.teambg.net/index.php?page=opentut&tutID=30The only change I would make to that tutorial is in the Chapter 6. Instead of entering your item name and description, I always leave that bit blank, because you later use WeiDU to assign the item name and descriptions. (An expert can correct me if I'm wrong here!)
When it comes to the .bam files, you'll see they've been mentioned in Sim's tute. Essentially they're the little pictures of the item (such as how they appear in your inventory, the image of the item when you drop it on the ground, and the image that appears when you click on the description of the item).
You can just recycle the images that are already in the game (especially for dropped items), but you may also make your own, in which case the following tutorial will be helpful.
http://tutorials.teambg.net/index.php?page=opentut&tutID=49(You'll have to have your images premade. The tutorial just allows you to import the pictures to .bam format).
If you want to use in-game images, I usually use the magical program Near Infinity (NI) to browse through the .bam files available (
http://www.idi.ntnu.no/%7Ejoh/ni/). I'd highly recommend this program anyway, because it allows you to look at any file within the game. When you're a pro, you can edit using NI as well.
You may also export items as .itm files using NI, open them in IEEP, then check out the values in each field to see how each item was made.
To get your item into the game, you can CLUAConsole them as Sim says in his tutorial. This is good for testing them (except for the item description part). When you go to make a WeiDU installation package however, you'd import your item using this command. This is where the item name and descriptions get added.
COPYÂ Â ~folder_where_item_is\Your_Item.itm~Â ~Override\Your_Item.itm~Â Â
SAY NAME1 ~Name of item~
SAY NAME2 ~Name of item~
SAY UNIDENTIFIED_DESC ~Generic description goes here~ SAY IDENTIFIED_DESC ~Identified Description just as it appears in the game~
Finally, for custom avatars, this is the tutorial... but you'll go insane.
http://www.teambg.com/iesdp/General/AvaGraph.htmIt all just takes time, effort, persistence, exploration of how it's done in established mods (that being the most important step in my opinion) and a healthy dose of google
. Good luck!
