Could spaces be used in the folder name of WeiDU mod?
« on: April 29, 2017, 07:29:45 AM »
The title says it all :) All the mods I've checked so far use underscore or simply no space between words when it comes to the mod folder name which is formed by several words, so I wonder if it's WeiDU technical requirement or just done out of habit?

It seems to work fine, but it is not compatible with setup-mymod.exe unless you run the binary from a shell and quote or escape the spaces. The OS will not do that for you if you try to double-click the file. I don't know if it has ever been explicitly supported, however, so there might be edge cases that break.

Thank you Wisp! I won't lie that I fully understand what "run the binary from a shell and quote or escape the spaces" means, but I try out and see if it will work :)

If you are running WeiDU from a shell you may as well skip the stupid idea that is setup-mymod.exe altogether and simply do
Code: [Select]
weidu "mod with spaces/mod with spaces.tp2" [optional options]

WeInstall does not support spaces, so there is that.

Edit: or use Zeitgeist. Spaces seem to work fine.

So that shell you keep mentioning is something like command line? Don't want that hassle, what I meant was whether Setup-Mod With Spaces.exe would run fine on doubleclick, pick up Setup-Mod With Spaces.tp2 and install contents of "Mod With Spaces" folder as intended :)

Actually, I have to correct my previous statement. setup-mod with spaces.exe does work on Windows 10, at least. Other OSs may not behave the same way.

Not sure it if will work with WeiDU or not as I haven't tried, but file names with spaces are not recommended on Linux and may cause problems with many different tools.
