The Jaheira romance.
« on: December 19, 2014, 11:57:41 AM »
I know this has been done to death, i have found many guides etc. etc.
I've completed to SoA romance twice, during my countless playthroughs.

The thing is that if i take my sweet time and play casually through the game, do every quest, beat every boss, i am still usually done with SoA before Terminsel spawns!
So, in order to finish the romance i looked to the cluaconsole this time around....But for some reason none of the commands works for Jaheira.
The Aerie romance on the other flows rapidly when i use CLUAConsole:AdvanceRealTime(X), i am really at a loss for a solution.

Is there a mod that speeds it up? Am i doing something wrong?

I've used the following commands to no effect:
CLUAConsole:AdvanceRealTime(X) <--- Jaheira seems not to care at all!
CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("JaheiraRomance","GLOBAL",1) <---- what does the 1 mean? That i advance it by 1? Seems illogical considering that it's called "Set" rather than "Adv".
CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("LoveTalk","LOCALS",XX)  <---- i am uncertain what this does exactly, does it simply skip steps or does it force the dialogue/event?

One last note: I rushed to chapter 3 since Jaheira's quest isn't guaranteed to trigger in chapter two afaik. Does it have to advance to a certain stage before advancing from 2 to 3?

I am also curious about the poisoned man quest, does it have to occur at a specific time during the romance?
This post seems to indicate that it *has* to occur at a specific time.

For the life of me, i cannot figure out why the cluaconsole codes aren't advancing the romance.

Edit: Oops! i think i posted in the wrong forum, moderators please move it.

Hi! I think it's best to install BG2 Fixpack with your other mods(_before_ the other mods, that is - please consult the readme). Also, if you're new to the whole world of mods, take a look at this topic - it would help you make your reinstalls quick and painless: http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,17555

I believe BG2 Fixpack should help with your troubles.

(or there are romance guides and console commands, if it suits you better - I believe sorcerers.net has these).

(and since it's about mods, it's a more or less right forum, don't worry!)

I have been looking at the contents of that package, it does not seem to speed the romance up? I would much prefer a mod that speeds it up to pausing the game or using the console.
Using the console breaks immersion ever so badly, so i rarely turn to it.

Speeding it up is a great idea, but I can't off-hand remember if any mod does that. BG2 Tweaks forum might be a good place to *request* such a change, however.

But I really recommend Fixpack, because Terminsel's second appearance IS bugged, and Jaheira's romance may not come to its conclusion even if you take your time.

Well i took your advice and did a clean install, installed the BG2fixpack, the unfinished business mod (Since, that is why i wanted another go at the game!) All i really need now is a mod that speeds romances up. Considerably.

I lack the knowledge to make such a change myself, i don't know what file to edit and i don't know what program to open it with....but i would think that it would be as simple as changing 1 or 2 variables.
Specifically the delay between dialogues appearing.

I wrote and researched this, 10 years ago it would seem.

My best copy is at http://wiki.davelevy.info/jaheira/ and may be mirrored in PPG somewhere. In this I say,

Quote
The Baldurdash patch halves the time between timed events in the Jaheria Romance Quest. I canít find the name of the variable that holds this value. Its probably hard coded into one of the script files.

The other crucial piece of wisdom is that not all Lovetalks are time based.

Good Luck

But, how does that solve the problem with the romances taking too long to realistically finish?
Another option would be to multiple the rate at which the game counts real time. I don't think real time affects anything else?

Real time affects almost every in-game timer in BGII. You'd have only half the (real) time to do all the timered quests. (Besides, I am not sure the count of real time can be accelerated in the game.)

Really? I would think that the quests run on game-time.

There are both: GlobalTimer() runs on game time, and RealGlobalTimer() runs on real time. Hm, OK maybe you are right: quest related timers ("Come back in two days") would be on game time. And romance timers for the love talks are mostly on real timers. Maybe you are right, but then I am not sure this relation can be changed?

I'm no expert on programming, if it is hard-coded into the game then it would probably be quite difficult to change.
Otherwise it should be possible to simple multiply the real time counter by a number or divide the romance timer by a number.
Another possibility would be to make the romance run on game time, but i think this would require quite a bit of work compared to just multiplying by a number.
And again, i don't know how to actually do this.

Edit: I found a mod that halves the dialogue timer by complete accident. Have not tested it yet.
