So, fine. What are you playing?
« on: April 13, 2014, 05:00:54 AM »
I have been playing a TON of stuff.  The Witcher's series comes to mind. Civilization 3 & now 5 (fuck 4), TONS of Fallout and the Elder Scrolls stuff.  Plus some STEAM dealio games.

You?

btw, I'm torn between Fallout and Elder Scrolls.  Civ is a different genre.  I mean, how do you choose?

** oh! and let's not forget Obsidian's new game! Project Eternity. I'm in, are you?

SWTOR. Lots of SWTOR. :D Double XP weekend, people!

Tried Witcher, but somehow got bored. Haven't tried Elder Scrolls, but people say a lot of good about these.

(Played Diablo 3 expansion, got really bored. Finished it, though.)

I was going to do my best to let these topics ride, but how can you be bored with the witcher?? of all the rpg's this was the least fetch and carry game with the most story. and non-linear too boot. I are confused.

**sw(ko)tor is an mmo now, yes? different genre. off-limits.

I lost my old gaming computer a while ago due to spilling a sticky drink (ok, it was an alcohol drink in a martini glass. *weeps*) on it. It was such a great computer - never an issue (and it was red!), anyway, the result was I lost all my stuff, all my saved games and all my fanfics which, as anyone who has read any of my output, knows is a good thing (although I do regret the loss my Danarius' comeuppance fanfic with oc, it was moving, it was deserved, it was humorous and referenced glistening slaves and glowing tattooed shlongs that waved in the breeze. BTW, glowing appendages and glistening is in game references or fan canon, nothing to do with my depraved mind.) but I digress, where was I? Ah yes, so I had to reload all my games which took forever and wasn't entirely glitch free by any means and I now slowly replaying them and have a selection of new games as well such as the Banner Saga, a Divinity game and I am waiting (although I haven't checked recently and it may be available), Wasteland 2.

Right now I am finishing up the Mass Effect trilogy with fem/Shep and I am having fun but in the back of my mind is The Ending and while I am over it I still must admit to hating the dreams, the kid, and the choice outcomes and I still find the "rainbows and unicorn" ending horrifying and inexplicable.

SWTOR is kind of single player for me - I don't group and I don't do ops(tried, didn't enjoy). Witcher... well, I did the prologue, and the designers didn't seem to want to interest me(like Dragon Age, or SWTOR beginning), so I just uninstalled it.

I don't like ME3 ending, but I just go red each time, and apart from the Geth Genocide it seems okay. Sorta. I mean, humanity shouldn't die or change to another race, and Reapers should die, so it all evens out. And I do hate the dreams and the kid, too.

Reg - you are so behind I almost pity you. I definitely feel for your loss -- I lost all my inet shortcuts until I found 'some' on a disc. which is why you are here, eh? (and you still owe me one!) Mass Effect rocks! except for the EA Securom bullshit.  Dragon Age (3) is coming soon, anyone?

Yeah, I usually red it myself and head canon, after all, why should I believe it? The consequences of the red decision seemed arbitrary and why was it red anyway?

Reg - you are so behind I almost pity you.

O RLY? I'm replaying all my games not playing them for the first time. I think I'm quite current with games albeit a little mainstream. Replaying the DA series will be the last replays so I can have my saved games in order for DA 3 and remember all the details.

I will play one/third of the dragon age saga, then I am DONE with EA's bullshit.

Well, knowing that as the game comes out in a multiple platforms (idiot consoles), there's no Save Game import feature, but a select your "endings" feature provided by the DragonAgeKeep.com ...

they don't care about anything but the market. dont you know?
And why shouldn't they ? As should you know, the market is the driving force that shows what people like... it's unlikely that you today make a flipper game out of the ME franchise and make it far more successful that any of the other flippers.
But adding features to the current games is likely to make them more successful, if done right. The ME3's multiplayer is likely candidate, the micro transactions probably made the money back, thus making the whole thing profitable. With the free distributed DLCs.

flipper? makes me think of pinball.. boing, boing, boing.  While I understand the need for profit I, personally, desire art.
(insert profoundly logical argument)
Free DLC's?! Say it isn't so! And it wouldn't be because EA owns ME, and EA is never free.
(insert profound sadness)
ME was still awesome. despite it's illogical ending; and ridiculous fix
Profit is only profit. there is no right or wrong to it, only profit.
***multiplayer, ugh.

**like = what people will pay for? a difference.
I can't always afford what I like.
****but I really like endings. multiplayer doesn't do endings :p

I believe there are import saves as well as the keeper which allows the player to make customized choices in detail. Regardless of either of those options, I like to have my save games just so.

Erhm, yeah, I meant the pinball machine/digital representation of one  ... it's a question of translation.

The EA's current sales logic is illogical, for example the Dead Space for free though the Origin. And other stuff(ME3 multiplayer DLCs), it all is defying the premise of your post... but it's seen in the today's hits like the Titan Fall, where you have to pay for the expansions---- but you can bet it's about the sub-studio contracts and so forth. At least that's what I hope it's about, cause ... well, if there's Multiplayer in ME4, there ought to be free DLCs, and not just Pay to Play & Pay to Win. I liked the free Extended Ending a lots. Yeah, the game could have been finished differently, but would it have been better... I'll have to judge it on the bases of the next games start&story, cause there's still things to be figured out, and this ending doesn't actually interfere too much on that front.

Will see about the DA3, the story needs to be GOOD, and the games mechanisms better than before.

I have been playing both of the Fallout 3 games with bunch of mods, and of lately the darkside KotOR2 again with the Restored Content Mod, where the original ending was a catastrophe, and the mod makes a lot of good, similar like the ME3 DLC.

Well, if you go and look at the free DLCs the ME3 has for itself, it's all the 5 multiplayer DLCs and the Extended Ending.
The point is/was, it can become.

NV (Fallout New Vegas) rocks! What's not to love about open-world/discovery gaming?  Why you hate, Imp?
F3 was so-so, agreed.  And after playing Elder Scrolls, I loves me some Bethesda open world gaming with flava(or)

Echon, any additional comments on Civ5? I've just started. Seems the civilopedia should be called the reference guide-still need to rtfm. ?

Haven't played Serious Sam yet. Looks like a fun shooter?

All new "free" dlc from the "extended ending" on REQUIRES online play -- it won't launch offline. That's not free in my book.

It's the game engine, not the adventure part. It cheeses the whole game so badly that I want to hit some body after x amounts of crashes, and there's plenty of those around with this engine. Yep, on a 7 CPU PC I can only use 1, as the first instant the second is used, the game crashes. That's not just bad coding I'll tell you, it's horrific, but then again it's a console game, so what else is there supposed to be expected, that they would create a tradition carrying PC game, that would actually be primarily programmed for PCs... ouh well, I always thought the opposable thumb was, a bad idea !

All new "free" dlc from the "extended ending" on REQUIRES online play -- it won't launch offline. That's not free in my book.
Well you were able to download the Extended Ending online on the machine, so where did you go after that ?
Yeah, the DLCs have their copyright contracts that are not greatly advertised... but it's there to promote their interests. You are "free" to cross them if you know how, until you cross a line you shouldn't and then you might never be free... Unless you already are a committed cyber criminal.
Yes, there's downsides for freedoms too.

Where we have gone afterwards is none of EA's business, point being.

Although "free but unavailable" would be more accurate than "not free". The problem is that some publishers tend to lie to their customers, marketing MMO games as singleplayer.
