I highly recommend using Autopatcher
to keep ya XP (and win 7, 8, 2003, 2k) machines up-to-date.
There's two parts to it:
 it'll download--but not install--all patches & modules; Important, Recommended, etc.
You can keep this as an archive. But it'll also be used for...
 It gives you the option to pick&choose which modules to install, then will autoinstall them without prompting to the user (except finishing the process).
It also includes some extras such as 3rd-party apps confirmed to work in XP, e.g. 7-zip; XP system tweaks; Flash, dotNet & DirectX updates, and much more.
