What are you watching?
« on: March 23, 2014, 12:53:20 AM »
I'm zoned in on FX(x) -- I'm looking forward to the new Fargo series. but I am watching Being Human -- interesting now that Aidan knows about Sally -- and The Americans is really interesting... what about the kids; would I want to tell them or recruit them?

Yeah. The other thing I was watching was Amish Mafia.
Having grown up in Ohio and having the luck of parents who wanted to take road trips, I have encountered Amish. I have taken a picture of an Amish man plowing his field with his team of horses with great reverence - because I know what that means.
It's unfortunate, what happened.  That they did*not get it at first. I am glad the Amish (aahmish) finally saw though the money/power/glitz/whateverthefuckitisthatmakespeople turn into starstruckmorons. And the producers deceptions: They who would manipulate a people that do not understand our ways. Congratulations, Discovery; your Amish Mafia producer has shown that the old fucked-up, xenophobic, manifest-destiny ideas still thrive.

House of Cards is amazing. I wish they haven't written off all amazing male chars, though. (I'm okay with killing that female one. :) )

Scandal, anyone? But in the short run, Under the Dome. Stephen King is always better read, however.

I'm just starting True Detective. I love both actors and film noire. And let's not forget the start of Fargo!!

What do you mean "written off",  Kulyok?  Killed?

Not necessarily. Written off means "doesn't appear in that series any longer", though the character may still be alive. (spoilers, obviously)

Was very impressed by the last Mad Men episodes. Very good, really great dialogue and drama. I was afraid they'd kick out the California characters, but they didn't. (Though unfortunately we still got Megan, but very little of her).

Game of Thrones, on the other hand, is fairly boring, but maybe that's just the second episode.

And they've got a new actor for Daario Naharis in the Game of Thrones. :( He's boring and he's dumb. Old Daario was a lovely scoundrel, this is just another unmemorable faceless guy. :(

OMG, where do I begin. Megan is supposed to typify CA (I think) but she's also in love with Don. (The Don?)
AND HOW CAN YOU SAY GAME OF THRONES IS BORING, OMG?!
To quote: You win or you die.

I was SO pleased to see Joffrey die. I hope his bitch mother (the source of that quote) is next.

BTW  Fargo left me wanting. I love Thornton* but still.

I hope he doesn't carry the show. It would negate the whole Fargo Movie vibe.

Cercei's not gonna die anytime soon, but you'll see her dragged through the city naked. Um, I hope. :D I like her, though, I would be as crazy as her, if I could. Except I'd kill Robert in his sleep much earlier. Alas, not a queen. (checks) Yep, definitely not a queen. And Jeoffrey, yeah, was only a matter of time.

(I wonder why they didn't say right away who killed him, though it was obvious in the movie, too. They hinted at the murderer, but didn't outright say it was her).

I don't know, after that brilliant scene with Don's daughter, "I'm so many people", and Peggy's difficulties, and those secretary troubles in Mad Men, it was kind of a letdown to turn on the Game of Thrones and watch another Bran scene(I can't stand Bran's story in the book, either, honestly) and listen to all the "you're a warg so you can't eat while you're in the wolf's body" explanation thingies. It's so boooring!

I didn't like the latest Chicago Fire either, by the way - they shouldn't have killed off that Julia Roberts lookalike, she was pretty feisty and I hoped she'd move in with Dr Chase instead of that boring Latino girl. Ah well.

Grimm is so horrible it's fascinating(I'm still midseason, though). The captain's appearances kind of save it, but still, we're getting relationship talks and couples talks and family dinners and no action. And I'm getting fed up with constant vigilante justice - the so-called heroes keep killing people and nobody cares. Ugh.

Person of Interest is still amazing, though. Looking forward to the finale.

Fargo sounds interesting, except for Martin Freeman. I'll watch it if it gets a second season, and judging by your words, it probably won't. Thornton sounds cool, but, yeah, without a good screenwriter even the best teams fall apart.

Also, watched that episode of Mentalist right after Grace Van Pelt's *spoiler*. Man, I'm starting to hate the main character. I like Mentalist, because it's a rare detective/procedural show with strong drama(though they completely sucked with Red John revelation, it should have been the science expert guy, like Dexter!). But that episode made me really angry and disappointed. The protagonist, Patrick Jane, kidnapped two people, he forcefully assaulted the female lawyer(who was just a lawyer, completely innocent), grabbed her, took her phone and rearranged her clothes, and after all that made her walk through the desert! God, he'll rape someone next. I really hope someone does the same to *his* character, but nooo, he's a protagonist. Grrr.

Seriously, this "he's a hero, so he's allowed to cut corners" thingy? It doesn't make a character more "shades of grey" and "three-dimensional". It makes him a Mary-Sue bastard who has no empathy or compassion from the viewers, and who amazingly gets no retribution from the law. In other words, it effectively makes him an untouchable villain. Ugh.

Game of Thrones: You've read the books then, eh? I need to get on that. ;) Books are always better.  I (think I) know who did it based on plot.  And good, dragged through the streets is far better than a quick beheading any day.  That 2637 deserves no worse.

Mad Men is looking to wrap up their series. I've watched it since the beginning, and while I love the way they addressed certain "issues", it's time. I'm glad they're not going to drag it out. Glad you're enjoying it!  It's definitely worth a watch if you're into social issues.

The Mentalist is cute but I like my heroines. ;)

They really are better in this case. Everyone has more "screen/page time", and there are several secondary characters present in the books that the series have left out for obvious reasons.

Well let's see.

Of series currently being in production I'm really attached only to Castle, and since I hate annoying week long waiting for another episode, I'm waiting patiently for the season to be finished to watch it in one huge Castle-fest (or, realistically, a month of 6 series per week). Luckily, the season's end will be at May, the month ridden with extra-holidays where I live :)

Liked The Big Bang Theory, but even though it seems to be all around ok: funny, nerdy, and all, I found myself having absolutely no regrets that I haven't watched last season yet. May be I'll catch up on vacation.

All other series that I like are the ones of the past: recently I re-watched Jeeves & Wooster - excellent series that I would recommend for anyone enjoying refined, elegant English humour. If you've read the books of Woodehouse and didn't like these, try the series anyway, it's so much better than the original books due to fantastic acting of young Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie! May be not "young" young, but definitely younger than in "Kingdom" and "Dr. House", respectively :) Actually, when watching Dr.House for the first time, it was very hard to shrug off nagging thought of "hey, so that's what happened to Wooster after he grown up!" :)

Watched first season of LEXX - not bad, but it's somewhat simplistic as it is and I've read on wiki that it will be the more "stupider" with each following season, so I'm not sure whether I should spoil my good impression from first season by watching on.

Tried to watch Northern Exposure, but apparently failed by season 5 or so: while originally very appealing thanks, among other, to its somewhat Icewind Dale'ish setting, the show eventually disappointed me as it got the tendency of being not about main character, or two, or even six, but rather about a whole village of people, losing it's focus on supposedly main characters and leaving not much place for their personality or, at least, story development.

My short term plan includes re-watching Moonlight and Due South as well: Moonlight had the best, almost authentic VtM:Bloodline feeling of all vampire series around, so much better than stupid True Blood, and Due South - well, I just love it for no apparent reason, other than good actors, good stories, great music and of course Diefenbaker, white wolfdog :)

Heh, Grace van Pelt from Mentalist appeared on Chicago Fire now. And Finn Polmar is pretty good on Good Wife; it may not be the end of the world, after all - his story is interesting.

I recall True Blood's season should start soon, right? But other than that, I have nothing planned for the summer(except the second season of the Following, but it's boring) - and I really want something to watch. I've watched most of the classics like the Wire/Fringe/Babylon 5/X-Files/24/Dexter/House/Dawson's Creek/Six Feet Under/West Wing/Sports Night/Grimm/Supernatural/; and most of the new TV series(Arrow/Elementary/Boardwalk/Homeland/Castle/recent Bones are just too boring for me). I wonder if there's some TV series with great drama and action that I've missed, but probably not bloody likely.

Babylon 5, Farscape and Battlestar Galactica was by far the best sci-fi series I've ever watched. True gems.
