Music
« on: March 31, 2004, 10:27:11 PM »
These are some samples of musics that's being worked on for this mod.

This is a sample of
Sunite Temple Background Music, Basically 'The Lady's House' from the Baldur's Gate Soundtrack with some additional harp thrown in by me.

These next two pieces were written to go in banters. They are not meant to be background musiic, but performance pieces.

This one is from the Surayah/Anomen romance.

This song is my attempt at doing something with a Sunite theme. The subject matter is matrimony, the contrast between formal courting and the wild intuitiveness of passionate love. The lyrics of the full song are:

Poets bare their hearts
Speaking love as an art
We dance beguiled
In a maze of words styled
Like a gown
Like a cloak
But what this is
Needs no words
Sune’s kiss
(binds thee with love)
Sune’s kiss
(binds thee with love)

No vows enough
Beggars and kings your troth
No one can know
Lawful rites to bestow
This fire
This wondrous fire
For what this is
Needs no laws
Sune’s kiss
(binds thee with love)
Sune’s kiss
(binds thee with love)

This one is from a PC talk.

The inspiration here was to do a song that was the story of a pair of lovers making their goodbyes, yet that had elements that, at the same time, harkened to the PC's story of being forced to leave Candlekeep and the separation from Gorion and Imoen. The lyrics of the full song are:

Hold me, my dear one
I travel far
Far away
From my
blessed familiar
My only home
Kiss me, my dear one
Heavy days
My heart alone
But my
fate is to leave you
I am forced to go
So hold me
Free me
And while I am gone
I will sing
I will sing this song
I miss you
I miss you
I still dream of you

Note: The sound files for the songs will be a separate install component, so anyone who doesn't want to hear my voice, or dislikes the thought of songs with vocals within BGII, will not have to hear them. The lyrics will still be included within the corresponding banters.

Newt had always suspected that people who regularly used the word "community" were using it in a very specific sense that excluded him and everyone he knew.

Let me get this straight. You are singing this?
"Loo-loo-look at you hacker; a p-pa-pathetic creature of meat and bone, (panting) panting and sweating as you ru-run through my corridors. H-h-how can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine"

Yep, it's me. Except for the temple background music. They're - I don't know - people Michael Hoenig keeps in his garage? :)

Wow Bons. Great voice. I hope you add more of these quality soundclips into Surayah.

This music is fantastic!  I'm currently finalizing my Higher Music composition folio, so I know how hard it can be to write music that is both original and captivating - good job!

Thanks, Alarielle! Composition and mixing are also a bit time consuming, so I have taken shortcuts in places. For instance, one Jan banter turns the melody of a rather classy drinking song by Franz Schubert into a rather classy love song about a turnip.

Touching on Shodan's last comment, there will be/are more songs with instrumental backup and/or mixed vocals, but only a few. A big chunk of the completed song clips are of the a cappella variety.

It's "Trinklied" D. 75, with the first line "Freunde, sammelt euch im Kreise" which I think translates as "Friends, gather in a circle."

How about adding them via a seperate component. Kinda like an expansion  ;D

Wow. This mod just moved from my "will probably try at some time in the future" list to my "will download the day it is released" list. Great work.

OK, so Bons, you're an artist in in music, visual art, and the written word, AND you can program.

It's April, shouldn't you be jetting off to Paris to meet one of your lovers?

Easy...I lack focus. :)

OK, so Bons, you're an artist in in music, visual art, and the written word, AND you can program.

If he was in Paris, maybe, but instead, he's on my couch, eating Chinese takeout, and helping me root for Connecticut in the NCAA basketball tournament.

How about adding them via a seperate component. Kinda like an expansion  ;D

At the very least, the song files will be a yes/no component on install, for the sake of people who may not want to hear them. I was also pondering breaking them out into a separate item to download, since even with the new areas TISpacked, it'll be a tedious download for anyone without broadband.

Also, thanks to discharcher, jester, JPS and Kate for your feedback!

Bons, I'm not sure if I've said this before, but I really like the Surayah/Anomen song. (And you have a gorgeous voice.) My favorite, however, is still the Sleepy Boo piece, at least until I hear the Jan turnip number.  ;)
"Yes, I remember Avalon," he said, "a place of silver and shade and cool waters, where the stars shone like bonfires at night and the green of day was always the green of spring. Youth, love, beauty--I knew them in Avalon. Proud steeds, bright metal, soft lips, dark ale."

Thanks, Kirwond. Both the Minsc banter song and the Jan banter song are special in their own ways, so maybe you will find equilibrium between your hamster love and turnip love. :)

And if anyone's, like, "Sleepy Boo??" It used to be available through Surayah's website, but I took it down when I decided to re-record the vocals.
